The Camaro being more easily available speaks more for GM's willingness to meet the customer's wants. DCX by limiting the Challenger production if they do that, is telling potential customers to take what we offer or nothing at all. That will turn away a lot of people who maybe don't want that exact car.
I personally like the idea of lots of engines and trim levels because I can get what's right for me. I am not insulted by slower, cheaper versions of the car I drive. If that is what you want and can afford, it's great. I would love to see 150,000 Challengers on the road with everything from a little V6 to a huge Hemi in every trim level. It keeps prices down and aftermarket interest up.
