My pal also knew a owner and grabbed a MSRP deal and his Shelby came in last Friday the 18th. I had a chance to drive it. Pictures don't do this car justice. It looks so much better in person. And as for 500 hp. the car is a Beast.
A performance shop already has one and has only added a CAI, Cat-back exhaust, and a tune. the car made 500rwhp & 502rwtq, and ran
11.81@120 in the 1/4 mile spinning in 1st gear.
The car is definitely mod. freindly.

Yep it makes sense what you said.
I have as well a great connection thru my wife's family (my wife's uncle best buddy is the owner of one of the largest Ford dealerships in Mass. Met the guy a few times, really cool guy indeed.), but I didn't have the heart to go ask him for a GT500. Didn't wanna bust his chops...Well, my loss.
