Re: New Problems New Members
I've had a problem with my 6 speed car and Chrysler brushed it off on the 2nd visit to a dealer. Being a master tech working at a dealer up until recently, I'm sure the problem stemmed from a clutch issue and not a transmission one. I'm still having some shifting issues, but I was told to drive it so I am. I'll take it back in as things gets worse which they will. It's not going to magically heal itself.
It feels like the car is not fully disengaging the clutch unless it's held in for a lot longer than is typically necessary. It drove PERFECTLY for 1600 miles before it had the issue, and I was on a long trip with nearly all highway/freeway driving and VERY little shifting when the initial problem happened.
It still drives great, but the shifting was beautiful and smooth right up until the initial problem pulling away from a stop sign at an offramp. It's never been smooth since and I had come 200 miles with no shifting on the freeway since the last stop. It felt like something stuck in the trans and the clutch not fully disengaging. It made horrible noises for a bit, and then went away (mostly) at the dealer it was towed to when the tech test drove it. Chrysler said to drive it to where I was going and have it looked at there. Then when the tech was done looking at it, they told him to tell me to "review the skip shift feature" and told me to drive it. It was making horrible noises at the first dealership and had nothing to do with the skip shift feature. The clutch didn't release, the blocker ring probably stuck on 2nd gear and it wouldn't go into 2nd and 3rd for about the next 7-8 miles on the odometer.
I'm sure that they will eventually fix something in the clutch/trans. assembly, but the car is only 2 1/2 months old at this point and I'm sure they'll make good on it so I'm driving it for a while.
After reveiwing the issue, I've noted that there have been other members here and on other forums having clutch issues with this particular dual disk clutch. Ford has a TSB out on it requiring the replacement of the clutch, flywheel, input shaft, 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears and synchros on the '07-'09 GT500's. They are blaming the clutch for causing the initial issue and it's the same one we are using. The symptoms they note in the TSB sound like exactly what I'm experiencing.
I have no doubt that it will eventually be worked out. Until then, I love the car and no one is getting it away from me! I'll continue to personalize it with an eye towards keeping it for a LONG time. Again, I love this car!
