Re: Prevent Your Car from Being Stolen

In reading a post on the ChargerForums website, I was pleased to discover that the security system on the Charger SRT is "state of the art." With this system, you do not have to purchase anything else and do not have to worry about "code grabber" devices. (Note: DCX, as an option, also offers an audible alarm).

The operation of the security system is described below (per the Charger post):

1. Key has a tiny computer on a chip.

2. Security module sends a message to the key "Make a code"

3. Key generates code, transmits it to security module

4. The code can only be acceptable if the chips information (NOT the code, thats fresh every time) matches the list of known key chips.

5. Security module does two things. One, it runs the code through a math problem to verify that the chip is valid, this prevents you from just using a copy, your copy would need to know not only how the chip does its math, but specific values on that chip.

6. Second, it sends the raw data to the engine computer. It runs the exact same test, and sends a message back to the security module. This prevents just swapping in a security module.
