If I am a "spirited" driver (not doing hard launches or burnouts or anything, though) how much does this affect the life of the parts and how much sooner am I going to be replacing things?
the transmission itself is a TR-6060 which is legendary for its durability. this is the transmission used in the viper and according to wikipedia is rated for 600 foot pounds torque. you definitely don't need to worry about decreased lifespan for choosing a manual. As to which parts tend to wear out the fastest and how much they cost to replace, you may want to talk to your favorite mechanic. When the driver is skilled I believe the lifespans of both auto and manual transmissions are comparable.

PS look up TR-6060 on wikipedia.org or Google for more info
