Re: due respect to charger owners
I like the Charger well enough. I think DCX was intentionally trying to move away from the "overly" retro styling. The 300 didn't harken back to any period in that car's history (I'm sure there are some styling cues throughout, but nothing major).
With Ford doing the GT and Mustang - both VERY RETRO - and Chevy with the SSR and HHR (can you say blatant PT Cruiser rip off... but like 10 years too late?) - I think they wanted to go a different direction. Hint at the history but really move forward.
And, if the design and production of the Charger helped lead to the design and production of this car, then I'm all for it. In my mind, the Charger is great because, even if you don't like the styling, at least it's got some balls and it looks different. Geez, for my family do I want an Impala, Accord, Camry, Passat, Fusion or ... Charger. It really stands out and makes a statement.
Which is what the Challenger will do. And it will bring a 2-door into the fold. Ford did it with the Mustang... but then they never really stopped. We'll see if the Challenger (if it gets made) will start making the case for coupes again.
