Does anyone know if the 5.7 mid pipes will still work if I install 6.1 exhaust manifolds (shorty headers), or will the mid pipes have to be replaced as well?
Thanks.

Great question. Anyone?

Well, I found out that yes I do need to use the SRT mid pipes if I install the 6.1 stock headers. There are a couple of differences between the SRT and R/T manifolds that make it necessary to use the SRT pipes. Shoot, I was hoping to get by without it, but it looks like not.

correct, your stock mids will be to long if you use the srt headers. you may as well go with a high flow mid while your at, you will see more of a gain from that than the headers.

High flows in some states,CA could be a problem

Can anyone answer this for sure? I'm sure you're right NS1AAR about it being a problem here in Cali. High flows cats would be a nice addition.

Here some info from Carb Subject Top Page: Aftermarket Catalytic Converters (http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermktcat/aftermktcat.htm)
Not doomed yet but close

I have high flow cats for the 5.7 exhaust due in any day now. In the mean time I bought a set of stock 6.1 headers before I did my homework. If I wanted to use the SRT headers I would have to change out my entire exhaust to the 6.1 stuff. At this point and to be cost effective, a set of shortie headers will be my only option when and if somebody comes out with them for the 09 heads, or go long tube and sell the cats I have.

Also, 5.7L exhaust manifolds have your exhaust bungs welded into the manifold itself. I believe the 09 5.7L's carried this forward from previous years. The SRT-8 is different and the front O2 bung is in the mid-pipe.

I've never checked lengths, though. I would have thought they would be very similar in length, though.

It is ideal if you are buying 6.1 clamshells to also buy midpipes. No reason for SRT going LTs to hold onto them if they're already selling the manifolds. Looking forward to finding some time to put mine on.

I'm looking forward to seeing JBA's D-Port shorty headers that should be out of production in a few weeks. These should be another inexpensive mod and probably will be better than the stock SRT8 headers.

But for under $400, shipped, for the highflow Magnaflow cats for the SRT-8's, these will be a good mod.... if the 3" pipes and loss of back pressure doesn't kill your low end first.
