I've been having issues where my SRT8's idle falls off in gear. When approaching a stop sign/light, idle settles into 700 rpm for a few seconds, and then drops off to about 575. I can bump the shifter in Neutral or barely touch the accelerator, and it'll jump back to 700, and idle steadily until the next full stop.

I took it to the dealership today for unrelated service work, and they called to say that there were stored DTCs in the computer and that they were related to the ETC. I hadn't seen any MILs, and didn't find any when I last checked with my Dashhawk. Regardless, the stored codes were P2111, P0222, P0123. The tech also performed an "ETC follower test while observing TPS numbers" and found "ETC Assembly is sticking."

The Service Writer said they need to replace the ETC (throttle body), but it is on backorder and he hopes to have it in a couple of weeks. I have my SRT8 back for the time being, and I'm hoping that a new throttle body will correct the idle issue, but I have no idea if it's related.

Can anyone describe the "ETC follower test." And how likely is it that the "sticking ETC assembly" is affecting idle speed?

The throttle body lets the air into the engine. So anything sticking or acting up with the throttle, will cause idle issues. The ETC (electronic throttle)has an internal tps (throttle position sensor) This can be checked for smooth, accurate operation.(ETC follower test)Also a throttle relearn can be done to put the gas pedal sensor and throttle motor (ETC) in sync.Could be your problem, but had a few that the PCM (engine computer) was bad.

How can you determine if the PCM is the culprit?

I have a stock oe, but then you need to get it don under warranty.

The stepper motor position is calculated with the PCM on imput from all engine sensors like coolant, air, OS, TPS etc.

Most like it could be a binding motor, do you know however if was attempted to be rest for the base idle / throttle adjustment proceedure?

I have to give the beni of the doubt.

good luck!

If the codes are not active,it's hard to verify the failed part.Diagnostic tests are for active codes. If you have a failure code,it could be the sensor,PCM or wiring issue. It's possible the throttle is bad,but haven't seen many fail.I've replaced a few throttle bodies over the last year. All 3 cars had the codes comeback and the pcm was at fault.Recently had a 09 300 hemi with throttle codes,600 miles on car,PCM fixed it.Just my experience.

Interesting. Are there any other indications that the PCM if faulty? And would that be the next component replaced if the DTC(s) return?

I guess I should ask too, have you seen low idle conditions before? Was the PCM the solution?

Haven't seen any Challengers with idle conditions yet.Have them replace the throttle and see if any codes return. If they do,the wiring should be checked and wiggle tested. If thats ok,its probably the pcm.

Thanks for the help. I'll let you know what becomes of it.

it may have a poopy tps sensor and not throw a code-chrysler tps sensors are junk

Have you had a TPS fail on your SRT8 without throwing a code? What were the symptoms?

I got a code come up on Friday. Checked it with the predator and it was P0507 Idle Air Control Sysem. It said the problem was the RPM Idle was higher than expected. Didn't make sense to me. I put the factory tune back in for an oil change tomorrow and the light went out. ?????? Never had any problem witht the performance though nother than the idle was a little rough before the change out.

Check the catch can hoses.Any vacuum leak or PCV system leak can cause this code.

thank you sir. Got that confirmed from another source also. Appreciate the input.

Well, got the new TB installed and I must say, it made a noticable change in the way the SRT8 runs and drives! It had a pronounced hesitation when getting back into the throttle after letting off while cruising on the highway and its not gone. Off-idle throttle response has noticeably improved too. It really does feel much better and I truly am happy! Idle still drops off, however, and I'm going to point this out to the technician when I go back to get some other parts I ordered. I am beginning to wonder if the idle is just the way it's supposed to be?

Has anyone measured with the Dashhawk or Predator what your TPS % is at idle?

Mine is at 2% when at 700 and it falls to 1% at the point idle drops off to 575.

Can anyone else verify theirs?
