Second post here, first post is in the newbie section. Just purchased a 1974 Rally Challenger. Factory dual sway bar car with AC !! She hasen't been on the road in 10 years. Currently sporting a blown 318 with light duty 904 slapstick auto. Body needs attention and so does the interior.

I have a nice BIG BLOCK ready to go and a 727. She is in need of alot of work so I will bring it along in this thread. I have everything I need, with the exception of front bumper brackets. Please pm me if you have a set.

I am planning to do my favorite parts of all Challengers on a single car. Steet car build. FE5 Rally red, black vinyl top, T/A spoiler. T/A blackout hood vinyl center section, and I am planning side dump exhaust, like all the old school trans am cars had.

Pics will be coming soon. Here is the fender tag breakdown on the car:

Thanks for the welcome. My wife is from Nebraska. We were married in Holbrook Nebraska, after I got out of the military, met her in Cheyenne while I was still active duty. Got out after the first trip to the sandbox..........

Good luck on your build...

just a few things fyi

Challenger T/A's had fiberglass hoods with snorkle hood, and they were painted with a matte black. The R/T's had the vinyl center section on the steel "dual scoop" hoods.

Also for your car, there is no such thing as a "short tail shaft" 727. All you need is a big block 727 that wasn't from a 4x4 or motorhome.

Good luck with the build.

Very cool! Looks like you're starting with a fairly solid car! Good luck with the project! Keep us posted!

Big block / 727 combos are the way to go :) Have you ordered an overdrive yet? How about one of RMS' AlterKTion suspensions? Best on the street today!

Good luck man. This forum may be geared to the new Challengers but a lot of us love to see rebuild projects of the original cars too. Can't wait to see the progress and the final product.

Luckily there is no rust here in Nevada. I should have the car on the road this spring. Engine bay will be painted now. The rest of the car will get painted, maybe next year. I don't have enough money to do it all right now.

I am planning 3.55 gears with a suregrip rear, subframe connectors, RT hood and a T/A spoiler. Someone removed the RT hood years ago when the car quit running and driving. Bumpers are getting pulled in like the 70 model year. I will post up more pics after the engine install. Troy

Looks like you have a straight body except for the kiss on the drivers side nose. Awesome, I'm jealous- currenlty searching for a project car.

Car is stripped and bodywork is in progress. Body is in great original shape.

40 over custom KB pistons just arrived for the 383. The Edlebrock heads, windage tray, cam & lifters are here too. Things are moving right along.

Here are a few pics.

I also have to get a new set of connecting rods. One of mine was a little shorther than the rest. Probably just going to get a set of Eagles.

One more PIC.......12-31-2011

Luckily there is no rust here in Nevada.

Lucky indeed, I had a bunch of Challengers and Barracudas back in the 80's and I can tell you we had plenty of rust and putty on our cars in PA even then. Finding rust free sheet metal was a very tough job.

Good luck with your project looking forward to seeing it completed. :bigthumb:

Great picture for a great car in the great time.
I wish if I can have a 1970s low miles original Challenger!
