What is up with the site response times? My old 14.4 dial-up connection was way faster than what I am getting today with my cable modem. Been happening a lot lately.
Any Ideas?

I'd have to agree this is ridiculous. It took me 2 minutes to load this page. Can we get this figured out?

This has been thoroughly discussed in a few other threads. The way that the ads are loaded into the page slow it down.

Solutions include:
1 - install and use firefox to view this site
2 - install the firefox adblock plugin (don't skip the filter list subscription that pops up the first time you run firefox after installing the plugin--the default list works fine--but w/o a filter list it won't actually be doing anything yet)
3 - in the User CP for your account on the forum software you can also try these options:
- turn off avatar display
- turn off signature display
- increase the number of posts displayed per page to the maximum of 40 (increases signal/noise ratio of each page load)

Many a have found the first two of these alone to be a drastic improvement. I use them all and have had a much better experience with the forum since.

As explained in another thread, the servers that host the ads are non-deterministic. They can change at any time. Some may be fast, some may be very slow. Some may be close, others may be very far away (network-wise).

If you eliminate the ads from being requested then the only variable left is the actual forum server. It's possible that it itself is slow for some reason. If that is the case, let the forum owners know. It may be something in your local network vicinity--your ISP could be congested--but you could tell this by slow behavior of other sites as well.

FWIW, I haven't experienced any slowdowns on this forum today.
I also use the adblock plugin, so ad rotation does not affect me at all.

What popups? Or maybe that answers your question. :)

Firefox already has excellent popup prevention built-in. It is configurable in the settings. The adblock plugin may enhance it, I don't know. But the only popups I get on this forum are PM notifications, and firefox asks me if I want to accept it first (which I think is the default behavior).

I have noticed it to be extremely slow today and on more than one computer.

Both my computers are dead slow today. This site should increase their capacity. C'mon spend a few bucks and up date the site.:sleep::sleep::sleep:

Like I said, I haven't had any slowness from this site today.
Furthermore, simply throwing money at it doesn't always do anything. What specific update do you think they could do to fix *your* download problems?

I have since run Spybot on the computer I am presently using and it removed 43 entries and this site seems faster now.
