: 6.4l camshaft into 5.7l

new here, but been racing for many years, sort of retired from it, bought myself a toy, 2011 R/T Challenger Redline, Tremec 6 speed.
Mods so far, lowered car 2 inches, mopar 10 black wheels, Hurts shifter, Mopar cai, many cosmetic changes from changing spoiler to flat black to black fuel filler, the Mopar cat back ordered but not yet installed, this car needs to be streetable, have a 65 twin screws Dart in the garage that isnt....
looking for opinions on changing camshaft, my thought install cam from 6.4L to 5.7L, both MDS, everything except springs are the same
pros & cons?????

mds is a fuel saving system on most new hemi's, shuts down cylinders in eco mode in order to improve fuel economy and emissions, at cruise speed under little or no load the engine becomes a 6 cylinder than possibly a 4 cylinder, most people dont know they have it
looking for pros and cons on using the 6.4L cam in the 5.7L hemi, hoping someone has already done this mod
everything is almost indentical, have compared the specs from both cams, the 6.4 is a much more agressive cam.....

by the way, parts & service director in a large Dodge dealer, have access to almost anything, parts and the modifications are no issue,
want more, but do not want turbos or any sort of force inductions system....

MDS is an auto transmission feature only. Not on 6 speed manual.

... additionally you will need a custom tune for a new cam and 5.7 heads from what I have read. Tuning isn't currently available for 2011 R/Ts.

It would be an improvement,But piston valve clearance may be a problem,you would be gaining.105 on the intake lift and about 28* duration,and.077lift on the exhaust and no gain in duration.It would be a nice gain but i think P to V will be tight.

my bad, your right, when back and decode my vin, no mds, if too little clearance with the 6.4L cam what about the 6.1L

Maybe it's just me, but the thought of putting a cam from a 6.1 or 6.7 into the 5.7 sounds like crazy talk. Why not look at aftermarket cams made for the 5.7 and VVT?
6.1 cam shouldn't work at all, it's not a VVT cam.

Not much Available for 11 models trying to improve basic performance
Do not want forced inductions or nos
So far cai and waiting on vendor to ship my new cat back, all Mopar
Hopefully tuner will be available shortly
5.7 6.1 and 6.4 are basically same engine

Except the 6.1 doesn't have VVT....
And you won't be able to do any other cam until the tuning is there first.

I would suspect this cam would work in the 2011 5.7 motor. The difficulty you face is the lack of tuning for the 2011, not the lack of parts.

Just for the record it's really a VCT camshaft not a VVT (valvetrain). An Arrington regrind or new billet 5.7 VCT cam will give some good gains from what I've seen on a couple of threads. The trick to the issue is also the cam phasers need to be modified to reduce the degree of adv and retard on the cam to increase piston to valve clearance, then a hefty cam can go in. Ford and Chevy have them already from Comp Cams.

installed the new Mopar performance cat back yesterday, p5155959, really not loud, but a very different sound then the stock exhaust,quite happy with it, Mopar cai has also been installed, waiting on programmer to be released, may revisit the cam then.....for now going back to working on my Dart

been nearly a year into it, Reilly Motorsports front and rear suspension, Alterktion and Lynx, Moser rear db full float axle, triangulated 4 bar, r3 small block, Indy heads, scat crank, rods and JE pistons, crank resized to 4.10, 447 cid, with twin turbos, using 6.7L Cummins take off for the turbos....kind of quite working on it while i spent some money on the new toy,
