Just a heads up here. I picked up my Blackberry R/T in April and over the last month have been going back and forth with Dodge trying to get rid of a "failed O2 sensor" CEL.

Two weeks ago it displayed a CEL, when I checked it I found a code of P2245 with a fault in bank one downstream sensor. I figured no big deal, sensors go bad right? Nope. The dealer changed it out and took it for a ride, before the end of his 5 mile jaunt the light came back but this time it was bank 1 upstream so again it was changed. He once again took to the road and wasted another half gallon of fuel on this 7 mile ride. No codes this time. I get the car back 2 hours after they took it back to 12 miles on the odometer and pulled out onto the main drag in front of the dealership and of course, there is the light again.

Well I don't trust anyone to work on my car but me so I took the car home and checked the code and this time it was bank 2 upstream. I figured well, maybe just maybe it was a batch of bad sensors, the car was assembled with all of these sensors at the same time so it could all be one bad batch right? NOPE, I took it to a different dealer and worked with the mechanic who swore that if there were this many occurrences that it would have to be either wiring or controller (computer, ECM whatever you choose to call it). He worked with the guys at Dodge to troubleshoot it and allowed me to hang out in the bay and listen in. One more new O2 sensor resulted in the same light, same code and this time pointing back to one that was replaced by the other dealer already. The guys at DCJ were real cool about it and said they had been chasing some gremlins in some of the 11 R/T's. I asked what had changed since 10 but they evaded the question. Either way, long story to getting to a new ECM. It did take a week to get but it was replaced this am with yet another 4 hour marathon conversation with DCJ. They installed the ECM and now I get a P2115 and P2116 and several other codes. They expected this at DCJ but the mechanic did not. After he took me to lunch, we got back on the horn with the big boys and they fed his starscan with a new ROM for my ECM and after about an hour to program and re-initialize the codes are gone.

I tried to get an issue number or something that we could point to if we find this kind of problem being more than isolated, but I failed miserably.

I hope no one needs this info and mine was an isolated issue, but I fear that will not be the case.

For now at least, my ride is back to normal. Now off to figure out which exhaust to add. :D

Glad to hear it worked out - may have been a bad PCM and there was a need for updated codes to flash the replacement...

I had this experience with my new '01 Benz. Had it for 10 months and then got CEL...took three visits (and I was not happy). Visit # 3 happened two miles down the road after picking it up for trip #2.

The service writer's face dropped when I showed up 10 mins after leaving and he knew I was beyond pi**ed. If he could have crawled under a rock and hid there, it would have happened.

They kept trying to replace the $10 part when it required far more extensive trouble shooting and determined the PCM would make (incorrectly) some systems go into "sleep mode" which would trigger error codes during operation.

It finally got sorted out but MB had to replace the $1,500 (in 2001 dollars) PCM and they provided me with a loaner (rental) car at their cost.

Between the annoyance of 3 visits and then (drum roll please) the "lovely" new 2001 Sebring (8K on the odo) convertible I got to drive around in:

If Chrysler deserved to die a slow death the Sebring convertible would have sealed their fate (sorry for the blasphemy for the die-hard faithful, but that car was a POS) for the poor execution. It epitomized all that was wrong with their smaller car range (the LH sedans were much better...) A Dodge Dart from the 70s (and those weren't stellar for build quality) was much better.

* Doors that sagged - required you to push/bump them to get them to open when operating the interior release handle.

* Body that had all the rigidity of cold, coagulated slice of lasagna [and I'm being generous]. Flex that ran diagonally across the body front <-> back from both sides, especially on less than perfect road surfaces. [these were $22 - $28k price cars...not cheap]

* You had to grab the convertible top front bow and wrangle it into position to get the pins and latches to line up to secure it properly when closing it up.

I would have thought it was a bad PCM to start with as well but the one I got was not the part number that I had originally. Either they changed parts or it was just plain different.

Either way, the tech that we were talking to online was tweaking the program as we worked and then sent it down. Apparently I was the first that got this ROM so he is to call me tonight for an update. So far so good, although I did call them this morning to complain about a loss of power, they suggested resetting learned offsets by pulling fuse #2 for a minute and replace. I did and it did make a difference but I'm not sure about how much. We'll see how it goes.

I had a O2 sensor problem out of the gate with mine. Got the first light at 78 miles (replaced O2 sensor), then 144 miles ( I could not leave the car so just a reset), and finally at 228 miles (took to a dealer near my house and they found a cross threaded sensor on the downstream side of the Cat. Replaced both and no problems since).
