The worst part of the stock system is the front Y where 2.25" dual into a single 2.5" pipe! Some aftermarket systems run it to a 3" Y and then 3" all the way back. A perfect system for weight and performance. BUT: I like most of you want the system to split into dual rear exhaust cause I guess it is exhuast envy...:scratchhead:

I have no idea why not a single vendor does the SE right. Why not run the two 2.25 exhaust into a single 3" inlet muffler then have it look like the flowmaster setup with twin 2.5" pipes going out to individual mufflers on each side.

Oldman,

The RacePro PYPES set-up I purchased is a true dual exhaust for the SE, it is from the cats back, two mufflers and no resonators, plus 1971 retro dual quad tips. It is almost half the price of the Magnaflow system that has resonators.

Looks awesome and sounds like a V-8

The only issues I have with a true dual exaust is:
1) heat sheild under gas tank
2) pipe size in general slightly too big for 250 HP.
3) much harder to control drone with large pipe dual exhaust.

With that in mind, if it is a looks mods, magnaflow V6 quad tip is going to give you 75% of the gain and look almost like the magnaflow R/T exhuast. It would just bug me to no end to know that infront of them quad tips is a SINGLE 2.5 pipe......

I don't want too loud...If I were to go with Pypes I'd get the Street Pro. The lowest I have seen Pypes V6 systems was $539. The lowest for the Flowmaster I've seen is $612. No need for valence so thats another $40 for the Pypes system. So Flowmaster is no where near twice the cost of Pypes unless you can get the Pypes system for $300. If you can get if for $300 please PM me with a link to it for that price.

My Bad : I meant Flowmaster not Magnaflow:

Onthefence,

What Magnaflow is that cheap? I am referring to #16500 at about $950 plus the install and the valance.

Too loud? That is very subjective.

Drone, it IS a Muscle Car and when I was 16 in 1970 we lived for that.

I edited my post above. You are right, I rarely see the Magnaflow discounted.

No we live for a performance sound, lots has changed and an exhaust can sound great and have no drone, retro drone ain't cool.

You are a senior member and you are called "oldman" and you do not like retro drone?

It will always be cool because it was the 70's and the original sound.

sorry, a performance exhaust is cool and sexy too. but the drone that rattles the passenger compartment at steady state speed just ain't cool, specially on a daily driver. Look, I have a 440 A body with 4.10 dana and you can't have a conversation at 60 MPH... how's that for "retro drone"

I modded my exhaust to a similar to T/A in front of the rear tires style.

Here's a small pic.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i262/dablakh0l/P1306090001.jpg

The front x-pipe is from an SRT, the mufflers are Dynomax 24215 bullet race mufflers, and then custom bent for the remainder.

The hangers in the picture aren't fully assembled, so they seem a bit odd, and the mufflers look a bit ****ed, but when tightened up, they are fine.

I have to watch out not to hit heavy road dips, or I can bottom out. I was going to try to go old-school ('cause I'm an old guy), and slap a couple of spring expanders in the rear springs, but I think I might just look into some rear air shocks to lift it up a bit and stiffen it out.

Yeah, she drones a bit, but since I'm losing my hearing anyway, what the heck. It sounds awesome when I punch it, and drone like my '73 Charger did back in the day.

I'll try to post a few clips if I can find my 8-track recorder....:browsmiley:

oldman

go with the spring expanders in the rear, or just hacksaw the front 1/2 coil and run some 255 x 60s in the rear which are 1 inch taller to give the rake ya want: 1/2 tall in the rear vs stock, and 1.25 inches down in the front for a total rake of 1.75 or so.

Even though I have dual exhaust, it is still fun to look around.

Recently found Heartthrob Exhaust setup--2 1/4" pipe (everyone else has 2 1/2"), which it seems helps to post good numbers w/o drone. Their soundbite on the website has both outside & inside cabin sound of the engine revving. A little raspy, but not bad (it is a wma).

2005-2010 Charger/Magnum/300/Challenger V6 2-1/4" Cat-Back Dual Kit (http://www.heartthrobexhaust.com/1053040p.html)
http://www.heartthrobexhaustinc.com/1053040dyno.pdf

An email from them:
Our 2-1/4” system uses two Flowpack mufflers (we needed 4 on the RT and SRT8 for sound control, but the V6 was much more mild and only required 2 mufflers) and an H-pipe. I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback in terms of sound. The prototype ‘10 Challenger we did, the guy called back about an hour after he got it literally screaming like a little kid with how much he loved the sound, and the +17 rwhp we got out of it.

anyone know more about them ?

virtually no drone, probably 90% reduction in drone from stock muffler. ghostdance used a Jones muffler and custom exhaust setup as well.

Hey guys/ladies,

I've only had my SE for 2.5 months and have already upgraded.....i'm hooked! I don't have a sound/video clip yet because mine was just delivered to me, but I got stainless long tube headers and a dual side-exit exhaust from Stainless Works. I will post a vid/sound clip as soon as they are installed and purring!

My decision was tough because there are so many dual exhausts out there that are awesome. I'd like to hear about other systems on the SE so I know what I missed out on! hahaha

Thanks for the kind words. ZoSo is my wife's daily driver. She wanted fat tires and for it to go vvvrrrrroommmm. 245/45/20's and 2/1/2 exhaust and she is happy now. I suprised her the weekend before all this Houston cold weather with remote start too. I hope that will allow me to continue to drive ZoSo on weekends. The tone is fine through most of the gears and speeds except for when driving about 45-50 and it jumps up into 5th gear. I just slap it down to 4th, not much higher rpm's an no drone at all. Highway speeds have no drone either. Very happy with the results and cost. I Should have done this earlier but had to do my research first. Now I have a Challenger that sounds like a Challenger not a Honda.

I know i just got my duals put on my SE yesterday, and i couldnt make up my mind flowmaster. magnaflow flo-pro , i've had them all on other cars. So i went to the exhaust shop and got two GT turbo mufflers put on sounds great when you start the car, there is some drone inside but its only really when you step on it and goes away compared to all the other exhuast i love the sound you can still talk and dont have to turn the radio on full blast. It only cost me about 300 out the door and as far as the heat shield they told me i really didnt need it unless i wanted it.

Last week I took my car to the dealer to fix the window weather stripping which is cracked on both sides. The parts guy told me I needed dual exhaust on my car. Tell me something I don't know. I told him I've been researching some exhuast for 2 wks. He said he wanted to show me some in the storage. Apparently they had a promotion in their dealership for $3000 in upgrades for challengers. A few people upgraded their exhaust on their R/Ts. So they have them in storage. I saw them and they look good. The shiny dual tips on them look really nice. He said he could sell them to me for $225. And recommended where to get them installed for $150 - $180. (So it would be the factory dual exhaust of an R/T on my SE)

I need all the advice I can get on this. I've already received the rear valance w/ dual cutouts that I ordered online. Does anybody know what kind of sound my car will make with this exhaust. I'm not to big on making it sound like a V-8. I just want the look and a little tougher sound when I turn on the car. I appreciate all the info. Thanks guys.

first, please find and read my post on exahust velocity, IMO, SRT is a big fat NO, too much flow area you will lose low end torque and you could lose HP too, it is really too big. IMO of course. The R/T is still too big, I don't know all the differences between the auto / manual but 2.5" is too big, it won't have drone because of these are chambered mufflers. For $450 or so you would really have a good down on a Magnaflow system, I got mine for $550 second hand with very low miles. It is Stainless Steel, it bolts on in about 1 and 1/2 hours including the rear valance. It is a single 2.5" system so velocity will be good. Magnaflow says they found ZERO HP vs a single 3" pipe (3" is 45% more flow area vs 2.5"). I don't know if that is true, but if you are not goint to do any more than CAI and tune, the Magnaflow single to dual quad tips will be enough. If I were to guess I would say CAI, tune, magnaflow vs CAI, tune, true dual exhaust would be sub 5 HP. Now low end torque, forget low end, all torque except for torque above the factory peak maybe less to much less with the OEM dual exhaust. Sorry but we are buy HP but drive torque and any mod that drops torque on a V6 and a 4000 lbs car is not good. Back to what I'm saying the applied engine HP over the curve 0-60 and 1/4 mile could be less to much less with the dual exhaust. This is only a 250 HP engine dual 2" already offer 29% or more flow area vs stock, and given a dual exhaust with free flowing mufflers a good dual exhaust 2" may outflow the stock system by 40% or more! So you can see 2.5 dual systems or the 3" SRT system is so far out of the optimal norm, 100% for a stock R/T auto system to say 125% for an aftermarket 2.5" system, the only possilbe outcome to my mind is a slower car that will take more throttle to do anything. I have the magnaflow single 2.5" to quad tips, it is a little quite, sound nice WOT, would sound better with long tube headers.

So, you have dual outlet muffler in the stock location, with a left and right pipe leading to dual-exit tips on each side.... correct?

I put an R/T dual exhaust on my SE. I picked it up for $50.00 from a guy who swapped out his and then paid $130.00 to have it installed. The sound is not much different than the standard SE exhaust, just a slight rumble at start up. I only added mine because I like the look of dual exhaust and chome tips out the back valance. It has had no impact so far on the performance of the car. I drove it to Florida and back to Minnesota and it ran great. Other than the looks you won't notice any differance in sound or performance.
Good Luck

can someone help me understand the welding part?

some muffler shops don't do welding, and I know it is required in order to put the R/T exhaust on the SE.

how much does that usually cost? and is it a simple procedure?

I just put on a Corsa Dual cat back exhaust model 14443. It cost more than some of the other choices people have made and maybe not as loud, but no drone was important to me. I can definately hear the differnece over stock exhaust while iddling and when I am driving. I am very happy with my choice and the duals out the back look great too. I also put on an Airaid CAI. Im sure horse power gains are minimul but29169

29170 thats ok. I am happy.

for looks and sounds nothing beats Corsa:bigthumb:, I'm green with envy for St Patti's Day. When I saw and hear the Corsa, I knew it was the best of the best and my Magnaflow was um... second fiddle.

on the question of my setup, the Magnaflow exhaust like the Corsa, is a single 2.5" exhaust just like the factory till the rear axle, there it splits into two mufflers with two tips per muffler. So there is good velocity and sound control in the system. When the exhaust is cooler with less velocity (but much greater volume) the system is spit so in a way think of it as a stepped exhaust single tube header.:scratchhead:

The muffler shop that put my R/T exhaust on did not weld mine. They flared out the ends and clamped it on just like the original factory exhaust.

Been doing a lot of research, talking to people, etc. to figure out what to do on my 2010 SE for my exhaust. I finally made a decision and just ordered an x pipe and two Flowmaster Super 44 Mufflers. I will do dual from cat to x pipe then to separate mufflers. I will try it with no resonators and see how it goes. I can add the resonators in later if the drone is too much for me. Hopefully, I'll get everything this next week and get them put on next Saturday. Will try to take video of before and after and post here.

Heat Shield Question:

I'm going to be putting on duals. I've heard differing opinions one whether a heat sheild is necessary where the second muffler is going to go. I called Summit thinking I would order the stick-on stuff other members here have used and the sales guy told me that it wasn't necessary. Dealer said I should and muffler shop guy I am going to use said "I could if I wanted to..." What do you guys say?

We had our dual exhaust put on August 2009 and we still haven't added a heat shield to the driver side, Last time we got an oil change I asked to look under the car and I checked it out and it appeared to be just fine. I would feel better with something there, but its seems ok so far LOL

It is not needed till it is needed, so checking on it will yield nothing, other than noting it was not needed.

So those of you that have had the RT auto or RT 6 speed exhausts on for a while, are there any issues? I have seen a mix of answers to this throughout the pages.

You spent tens of thousands on the car. Don't go cheap on the heat shield. Put it on.
I also purchased adhesive backed muffler tape and taped around the edge of the heat shield just to give it a more finished look and help secure it.

I purchased mine from Summit. It only takes a few minutes to install and is worth the peace of mind knowing it's there.

I have had an R/T auto system on for 5 months no problems.
I did just change out the suitcase muffler for dual magnaflows though.I have not deleted the rear resonators yet,i am going to see how it sounds with them once the magnaflows break in. As of right now the exhaust sounds very similar to when the suitcase was on there, but i have only had them installed one day,i have noticed they are getting slightly louder already though.
I suspect i will be removing the resonators .

I was looking under the car this weekend as I'm preparing for a new exhaust system. I noticed this thing attached to the rear angle pipe that goes from the muffler to the resonator(?) near the back tip. It looks like a metal L bracket that is welded onto the pipe with this black cylinder thing attached to the L bracket. Could someone enlighten me as to what this thing does and what it is? Thanks.

I am really liking my new exhaust system. I do have some drone and I'm just letting myself some time to see if I want to deal with it or not. My dilemma is this--if I put glasspacks or resonator on I will reduce the exterior sound while reducing drone. I really like my exterior sound. That said, I've already looked into these in case I do decide to put them on before the tips. Here are the two that would work:
Cherry Bomb Glasspack 87521
Jones Resonator AR3514B
Anyone have any suggestions on which one to go with?

I've found choosing the right exhaust for this car to be a challenging decision...the car is aptly named apparently.

I'm leaning towards an x-pipe into 2 pypes street pro mufflers (true dual) leading to 2 mopar quad square cut tips under an srt8 valance, with the rest of the piping custom done by a reliable shop in town. Also heat shielding on the drivers side tank.

I'd rather buy all the parts myself but I'm not sure on exactly which pipes I'd need running from the mufflers to the tips, being a custom job (semi) that's hard to nail down.

Any reasons why this wouldn't be a good idea. I'd rather find out now than after the dollars start flying.

I know without resonators to expect a little drone and any custom system is a roll of the dice in that department unfortunately.

I've never tried to put different size parts together before. The tips are 3" and the mufflers 2.5". Is that even possible or do I need to find different tips. I really like the Mopars.

I have the same problem as explained in my last post. I went down to the dealership and tried to get the part tag off the 2011 se dual exaust but they don't seem to have one.I see several X pipes for sale but I want to be able to match up the header exaust and some of them for sale have different center to center size. I see several video here posted but few have explained if what they did was a plug and play job. Haaa for me I want to be able to do it with a pair of channel locks .. a screw driver,,and a beer

That sure would solve alot of problems. At this point I wouldn't even question it if I was standing in my yard and an RT system landed right next to me. I'd just be like "Sweet", pick it up and walk into the house and call the muffler shop.

To complicate matters more this is my driveway..

Years ago I learned the hard way to never build a house on low ground so this house is on a hill which is on a hill.

The Pypes Street Pro SMC22S is back ordered everywhere I've talked to until the mid to end of June, since they all order direct from the vendor. If anyone knows where to find one in stock a pm would be much appreciated.

Few Questions.

What Magnaflow is that? 40/45/50?

What pipes did you use? Are they custom made?

Do you have some engine mods to give it that deeper sound?

I have checked so many post and videos and have to say, havent herd a deep growl like that yet on the SE.

Thanks
