: HELP! - Skip Shift Plug
JustForFun 07-31-2011, 04:06 PM OK - trying to install the skip-shift eliminator and I have the car jacked up and on stands. Crawled under and located the blue/white skip-shift plug on the driver's side of the tranny.
BUT...
How the H E L L do you take the plug apart?! For the life of me, I can NOT get the plug apart. What is the trick? Does it just pull off? Is there a tab somewhere that I am not seeing?
Someone who has done this....please help!
Thanks in advance to any input!

Blu Chalnger 07-31-2011, 04:16 PM Think there is a tab on the white plugin side, then pull. Had Trevor at club-cow put mine in for me he had a lift.
JustForFun 07-31-2011, 05:56 PM Thanks guys, but I think I am going to give up and admit I am defeated.
I have spent two different sessions - another one just now for approximately 30 minutes- and I can not figure the plug out.
I see NO tab and do NOT see any way to get it to separate from the selenoid. A picture showing what I "should" be doing here would be helpful maybe, but I have not been able to locate one.
I am ready to say screw it and sell the damn eliminator! I am so frustrated here.

pcpRT 07-31-2011, 06:06 PM Here is a great picture of one ! the clip on the white part lifts up and you pull it straight out, I know its kinda tight in there but this really is an easy thing to install !

The eliminator I have does have a clip like that.
However, the OEM stock connection does not have a clip like that at all. If it did, I would not still be doing this stupid install.
My current stock plug looks like there is no clip or retention plug at all. I just do not see one.

pcpRT 07-31-2011, 06:43 PM there are 2 plugs on the drivers side, the one you should be looking at is
near the center of the trans. not the rear one correct ?

Yep...thats the one
pcpRT 07-31-2011, 06:52 PM on the 6 of these I have replaced(Z28, GTO, Vette, Challenger) they all looked like the white plug at the end of this eliminator, so go out there with lots of light and don't come back in until its installed (and a test drive
of course !!!):bigthumb:

Thanks for all of the moral support and attempt to help me last night pcpRT!
I can now report that I DID manage to complete the job last night! Turns out that I was looking at the solenoid plug from the wrong side (towards the rear wheels) and that is why I never saw the clip. Once I smartened up and decided to look at the plug so that I was looking towards the front wheels (from the other side of the cross member) the clip was easy to spot.
I think I origianlly got fixated on approaching the plug facing the rear wheels because every reference photo I found showing an installed eliminator was shot from that angle. NONE of them showed it from the other side!
My bad for not doing so originally - but I was having one of those "Murphy's Law" days yesterday on several projects I was doing on my Challenger and my 300C. Let's just say that something went "wrong" with every one of them and leave it at that. LOL!! I think by the time I got to the eliminator install - my stress level was pretty high and I let it get the best of me.
You encouraged me to keep trying it and this allowed me to calm down some and think about it differently and that is when I smartened up and looked on the other side of the plug. DOH!
Thanks man!
And yes - I did take a test drive last night afterwards and I was able to shift right into 2nd gear when the dash indicator popped up in first.

pcpRT 08-01-2011, 08:33 AM I knew you could do it !
Blu Chalnger 08-01-2011, 09:05 PM Congrats on getting it done, JFF. I know sometimes I get frustrated about working on cars, something always seems to go wrong. Plus it was hot out there too working on it.
pcpRT 08-03-2011, 12:29 PM Plus you guys have mosquito's there the size of small birds !:indifferent:
RippTyde 08-10-2011, 05:16 PM So for my on edification the skip shift eliminator is the same for all 6 speed Challengers regardless of year? Cause I need to order one!

May I add an additional question --- is there a preferred vendor of skip shifts?
FWIW - when I took my 09 SRT 6spd in with gear grinding complaint, the Dealer's expert said 'shift it like you mean it, won't hurt a thing!' Was also advised the computer can be flashed to turn off the skip-shift, but not by them. Never pursued either of these suggestions, but wondering if any of you have thoughts on them?
