: Does Dynamat reduce noise/vibration on these 6 speed Hursts?

Okay so I've had my 6 speed Hurst shifter for a few weeks. I enjoy the positive shift action, and short throws. The one thing I truly dislike is the amount of noise that comes from the tranny when I drive with my windows UP. It's funny, with the windows down I guess the outside noise drowns out all the grating and metallic sounding notes coming from the shifter. I miss the quiet operation of the old stock 6 speed.

In my haste when I installed my shifter with a friend, I forgot to put the neoprene shifter handle piece and the dynamat. My question is, do those elminate or significantly reduce the noise, or will this shifter always be on the loud side? Was going to wait until I needed the 70s upgrade and do both at once (upgrade plus dynamat), or if others have noticed a big difference with the dynamat, I may have to put it in sooner. Also I've heard the neoprene handle dulls the shifting, because it's soft material. Anyone confirm on this?

Thanks!

The most important thing is to get a layer of Dynomat between the rear Shifter mount and the bell housing cover. I helps to line the rest of the bell housing with it as well, the rubber shifter washers won't be needed, this method will kill the noise.

Yes, the restoration shop put Dynamat in the floor, firewall, roof and behind back seat in my 70 Challenger and that stuff definitely works.

In video, skip ahead to about 0:40 to hear engine running outside the car. Around 0:55 I stuck the camera inside the car. Even with the windows down, it is much quieter inside the car than outside.

So if I hear you right you basically sandwich a piece of dynamat between rear shift mount and the metal cover that goes over it? Should the piece be over the shift mount towards the car, or away from the car? Wish I we had a picture, would make it easier.

If you look in the 70's shifter mod thread I posted pics of where I put the dyna-mat and several other things I did to minimize the noise, mine makes no noise what so ever now.:)

That's a massive thread, could you give me some hints to where you put it? I was told to put the dynamat by the forks of the shifter by the change rod. So basically putting a piece on top of where shifter arms are (by the pins) and then the middle rod that is part of the transmission.

I also was going to try the rubber washer on the rear mounting bolt, and see if that helps.

That is my plan so far, when I attack the shifter again this weekend.

Check out page 80 in that thread.

Thanks for the redirect. It appears you have to dynamat the heck out of everywhere.
