: Anyone had this problem??

I just finished installing my 93CAI predator tune.

I modified it to increase the throttle to 12%. Didn't turn off the MDS. Turned the shift firmness on. Didn't mess with the traction control (yet). I did engage the parking brake (which I never use) when I installed the tune, and now I get a click coming from the center console when I push the brake pedal. Again the click is coming from the console and not the pedal or even under the steering wheel. Is there a cable that runs thru there?

Does anyone know if this is something with the tune or a coincidence that something is up with my brakes? Never heard this before until right after the tune was installed and I pushed the brake to put the car in reverse. Could it be that the parking brake is still slightly engaged? Any help or ideas as to what this could be would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have done the same to my car and no problems. The only connection between the brake pedal and the console would be the fact that you have to step on the brake to put the auto into gear. There is a vacuum (usually vacuum) control that allows movement of the gear shift once the brake pedal is depressed. So there would be a vacuum hose, it could be accomlished electronically as well. I can't see there being a connection to anything you have done with the tuner. Possibly something is wrong with this mechanisum and when you step on the brakes it pulls the lock pin in the shifter base again and again.

ratllhead20 I have the same click, where your saying. I have no idea what it is either. It didnt have nothing to do with the tune or DSP, but I still dunno what it is.

I believe I may know what you are hearing. My Challenger is a 6 speed so I do not have exactly what you have BUT my auto trans Land Cruiser does have a solenoid that releases the shift lever lock when the brake pedal is depressed. My assumption is that Chrysler uses a similar method to lock the shift lever in park and pressing the brake pedal releases the lock.

I think Cruiserdan has your answer, probably just a coincidence that you started to notice the click at the same time you did your tune.

There is no vacuum going to the center console the shift interlock is actuated by an electrical solenoid, design to prevent someone from accidentally engaging the transmission, like a child.
When you press the brake pedal a switch energizes the solenoid which releases the shifter locking mechanism, allowing the shifter to be moved

And if the Solenoid goes bad you will not be able to take it out of park ;)

Thanks for the great info everyone. Makes a lot of sense. I love to know as much as I can about my car.

Not true. There is a manual override.

I want to be able to go into gear without mashing the brake first,,,,just beacuse.

Not true. There is a manual override.

It didn't work on mine I had to take the shifter apart and remove the solenoid and broken lock mechanism to get it out of park !!! Now I have 100% Manual overide !!!

That entire locking mechanism is made out of cheap plastic and mine jammed the manual override when the solenoid went bad !!!!! You would think for what we are paying for these cars they could at least make that stuff out of steel or forged aluminum alloy !!!!!
