: 3.0" Exhaust System?
Robomeister 11-18-2011, 04:53 PM I currently have a cat-back Flowmaster kit on my '09 R/T. I want to upgrade my exhaust further with long-tube headers and high-flow cats. But, I want to also upgrade the system to 3" instead of the 2.5". Would this be compatible with the R/T and what have you guys done with your exhaust system along these lines?
dark side 11-23-2011, 05:35 PM Why do you want 3" exhaust? You will lose all low end TQ and HP unless you are pushing massive HP #'s.

I agree, I worked with Frank at Zoomers Exhaust and he confirmed that their testing showed lower hp and torque on the 5.7 with the 3" diameter exhaust. My R/T has the SRT headers/midpipes and Frank made me a special pipe to marry with the 2.5" exhaust so as to not lose HP and Torque.
dark side 11-24-2011, 10:17 AM I kept the stock exhaust piping, just added shorty headers and changed mufflers. I am tempted to race one day with the catts installed and see if the added back pressure helps at all.
Hemi57 11-24-2011, 12:06 PM I installed SRT8 headers and Magna Flow mids but kept the R/T Corsa's. I have lot's of TQ and great sound.
Robomeister 11-25-2011, 10:41 AM I wasn't aware that upgrading the system to 3" would do that. But, that's also why I asked too. I want to get long tube headers though, but I also know that will pretty much make my current x-pipe useless. So, you don't have any cats in your exhaust, dark side? Are the SRT8 headers short?

I have the Borla long tube headers( they come with catless mid pipes ). you can use your stock exhaust with them but I went with Magnaflow.
Robomeister 11-25-2011, 05:43 PM I work with mechanics in the Army. I've heard from most of them that Hookers are pretty good to go with. How much of a performance increase did the Borla set up give you? I don't have my stock cat-back exhaust anymore. Just my Flowmaster Scavenger x-pipe, the two Super 44 muffles, and pipes.
ogisme 11-26-2011, 10:02 AM The Borlas made alot more power in the upper RPM range. Also they have a life time warranty.
dark side 11-27-2011, 07:40 AM I have the JBA shorties for the R/T. As far as my catless mids, I only put them on for racing. For street driving, the exhaust is WAY TOO LOUD....ALMOST OBNOXIOUS! That may be due to the mufflers I am running. I am going to change to a better muffler later, I will then see what it sounds like with the catless mids. As far as swapping them out for racing, it takes 30 minutes to do it....very easy and quick.

MoparTen 11-28-2011, 07:47 AM The majority of engine tuners for the LX platform cars (regardless of 5.7 or what) is that the MOPAR/CORSA system is all one will need even on cars making up to 1000 HP. so definitely good foe me....

I put the Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back kit on mine and noticed a difference. I like it and it sounds really good. So, that's why I'm asking about other things too because I do want long-tube headers, but I know it won't fit the exhaust system as it is right now. Everything from the cats forward is still stock.
Robomeister 12-08-2011, 08:43 PM So, would taking out the x-pipe and running from each header back as a single pipe, lose anything?
dark side 12-09-2011, 02:50 PM I left the stock X pipe in. Saw no advantage or disadvantage of changing it.

I'm sure there are some guys on the forum who have a more advanced degree than mine (astro-physics), but the x pipe causes a swirl on de-accelerating which is enough back pressure to cause the valves to operate properly.
Plenty more involved than that but I know most everyone who drives on the street and is not worried about a .01 time at the track leaves the x-pipe.
Now its time for the big guys to chime in.. :read:
Seems some Challengers have a fake X-pipe....

2011Cuda 12-11-2011, 04:28 PM I have a 2011 R/T Classic w/ track pack. The exhaust had a fake "H" on it. So basically it was just straight pipes. I have put on an AFE exhaust that has 3" pipes and 3" Kooks headers. My reason for doing this was that I was planning on porting the heads, putting in a new cam and putting a MagnaCharger on it. The rolling code that Dodge put on the 2011-2012 has put a damper on that plan.
So, next year I will get a 2010 PCM so I can do the changes I want. The car will spend the winter in the Barn and give me a chance to save up some more funds to get the work I want done. I spent this years funds on Foose two piece wheels, Nitto tires, Whiteline bushings and sway bars, BC Racing coilovers, SRT8 Brembo brakes, Mopar CAI, Mopar shifter, Cuda style carbon fiber hood, and finally a custom paint job. This car is at Whiteside Customs and because of my traveling schedule I won't see the car until next year.
Robomeister 12-11-2011, 08:30 PM The x-pipe I have is aftermarket from Flowmaster. Not whatever stock shenanigans.

Robomeister – When installing your new headers…for the best performance, you would be better off keeping the Flowmaster Scavenger X-Pipe that’s part of your current Cat-Back.
You can see in this picture of a universal-fit Flowmaster kit that you can get some pipes bent up to widen up for connecting to your new headers.

KLPROGOLF 12-14-2011, 03:06 PM I've got Kooks LT headers with MBRP 2 3/4 exhaust. MEANEST sound...videos of my ride are coming soon.
Stainless Works makes a great 3" exhaust along with LT headers
