2010 SRT8 6 speed. I have tried a couple times to have a little fun with the car, maybe smoke the tires a little, each time it's had severe wheel hop.
Yesterday the wife and I went for a drive, stopped and got some gas, when I left the station I got into it a little and grabbed second, for a second I thought something broke, then it started to wheel hop so I let out of it and we went one our way. What I think happened was initially it spun hard enough it didn't wheel hop, then got enough traction?
So anyway today I ran to the local lumber yard and way out from where everyone parks from a roll I punched it and turned left. Man it was great, it wheel hopped for a split second, then up in smoke, all I could see out of the side mirror and rearview mirror was smoke. I had about given up on the car, but guess whos buying a "Hop Not" kit?

Here's a close up of the initial hit. You can see the light and dark tracks showing the wheel hop. I know this is a little childish, but the last car I had ran 8.70's up here in Denver, not that I expected too much from this car, but at least be able to spin the tires some?

very nice burnout! I have been practicing mine as well. I found revving it up and letting the clutch out a tiny bit slowly and when it engages then let it out all the way. I haven't had much wheel hop doing it that way.

The Hop-Not stage one did help for me but it didn't help in the purchase of new rubber. :icon_eek:

Whether you have RSA's or F-1's, these tire compounds are just not made for 1/4 mile racing, they are made for road racing. I still do get very minor hop but I try and keep burnouts to a minimum these days.

Turn off ESP, 4000rpm, dump clutch. Hop Not and new tires is what it took for mine to behave.

Thanks for the replies. The tires are F-1's. I'm really don't want to light the tires at every stop light or anything, just want to be able to have a little fun with the car at the right time if that makes sense?

It makes perfect sense, I'm the same way. :bigthumb: Just know that these F-1's do not perform real well as drag racing tires (which of course includes burnouts), they are mainly road racing tires. You may get a bit of wheel hop due to their compound when launching. You can mitigate this by installing this stage 1 kit.

If you want to light them up without any wheel hop, turn off the traction control. I started with a slow roll and then let it rip and left marks that will never go away.

That looks like a complete waste of some good tire tread!!!

And I wouldn't want it any other way :-)
One of these days I will have a post like that with my R/T - problem is I just cringe every time I think how much it will cost me for a new set of skins. But then again, that pain will pass eventually, LOL. Wish I had a video camera back in 1983 when I did a little "oops" with my 1969 Torino Cobra. From what I remember there was about 300 some feet of posi burnout across a parking lot! MAN I wish I could go back to those fun times :-)
