Anyone using "race gas" :icon_flaming: in their SRT? I recently found a station near me that sells 104+ gas and wonder if it would do any good in a stock 6.1L SRT. I would assume this is just a higher octane unleaded but I'm not certain. Are there any issues with this and the catalytic converters? or the injectors? Or any other concerns that may negatively affect the fuel system in any way?

Not me! My Dad owned and raced a Dodge back in 1960 ..... he told me that those things can run on Oilfield "Drip Gas"
So if it was good enough for dear ol Dad ..... it's good enough for me! :)
(three weeks later)
OK ....so I guess that wasn't too smart..... :(

Don't waste your money unless you're running lots of boost or nitrous. As long as you're not knocking (detonation) you'll make more HP with lower octane gas (more BTUs in 87 octane than in 100).
Plus, if it's leaded gas, you'll wind up going through O2 sensors and eventually ruin your cat converters.

I have ran diff mixes of UNLEDED vp109,sunoco 104 and sunoco E15 with ca 91 gas in my jeep srt8 with 2 mods of cai and a street cmr dyno tune on ca 91 gas. With out touching the tune which has a max of 26 degrees of timing above +600 FT DA my best run in 1/8 mile was 7.98 with a 50/50 mix which was 98 octane with 4.05% oxy. My best time with 93 octane was 7.95 at +12ft DA WITH A RACE WT OF 5190 LBS. IMO a non tuned stock 5.7,6.1 or 6.4 eng can still make more hp just with the added oxy that the unleaded race gas has. Our ca 91 gas has only 1.8% oxy compared to vp109 with 6.3 oxy or sunoco 104 with 4.8% and sunoco E15 98 OCT with 5.6%. All you can do is give it a try and i have never datalogged my runs. My best with ca 91 gas is 8.08 from +2059 to +600 FT DA in 1/8 mile. With 91 gas it seems to run the same numbers between 8.08 & 8.11 no mater what the DA is.

its my understanding that the vehicle needs to be tuned to properly utilize anything close to 103+ i have 6 qts of torco in the basement that when added it needs tuning.

To keep it short and simple, if you don't have mods to take advantage of higher octane fuel then all you're doing is wasting money. Higher octane doesn't mean it has more energy which means if your stock engine is already able to run max timing on 91 or 93 then running any gas with a higher octane is a waste.

Your right except with the higher unleaded race gas your getting more oxygen that will make more hp without any mods as i did with 2 diff 91 gases. My best 1/8 mile ca 91 gas with 1.8% oxy was 8.08@ +500 ft DA and with federal 91 gas with 3.5% oxy i went 7.98@ +100 DA and i was dynoed tune on ca 91 gas with 1.8% oxy. I have been trying to get someone bone stock to try unleaded vp 109 race gas just to see if they also will run faster with the higher oxy %. When nascar went from sunoco 98 octane non oxygenated gas to sunoco 98 octane 5.6% oxgenated gas the engine builders said with out changing any thing on the motors they picked up 30/40 hp. All you can do is try it like i did. My dyno tune has 26 degrees total and i have never changed it to take advantage of the higher octane. As you can see the diff between the 2 91 octanes and there was only 1.7% diff in oxygen and 400 ft in DA WHICH THE DA WOULDNT MAKE ANY DIFF IN ET.
No one answered the OP's question. I was going to ask the same one. Can we run the unleaded 100+ racing gas in a stock 6.1L? I have a top speed challenge this summer and would like to get a little more power out of it.

Yes, his question was answered.

Running higher octane than needed is a waste of money and will not result in more power, etc. Higher octane is to take advantage of mods that require its use, such as advanced timing or higher compression. A stock engine and tune will see no improvement with race gas.
