: I'm new to modding...help
SeeMyRTinCT 04-03-2012, 08:07 PM Hey guys. I'm new to modding and challengers as well. My dream car. Had to have one ever since my uncle made me watch vanishing point with him when I was 16. Finally ordered mine march 12th should be here in 2 weeks according to the dealer. Ordered a 6 speed 2012 R/T Plus. Anyways. I'm looking to start small with modding for now. First investment is going to be RPI Splash guards. From there I'm thinking CAI and then Exhaust. Best recommendations? Not looking to get the highest end stuff as I don't have the biggest budget but good quality stuff. Also, I have been reading K&N drop filter as opposed to CAI? Maybe I'm reading wrong? Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about? Lol be honest be blunt be whatever. Any info you guys can help me with would be beyond appreciated as LEARNING was the whole reason for joining this forum. Thanks in advance guys.
Hell Ride 04-03-2012, 08:22 PM From what I have read, these cars don't benefit from a CAI too much. I have the drop-in filter in my car. In regards to exhaust, pick the one you like the sound of. Drone is your biggest enemy but it's not as bad with the 6 speed cars because you don't have MDS. You're limited on your options since the 392 doesn't have tuning yet. Intake, exhaust, catch can and that's about it. A hurst short-throw shifter should also be on the mods list, maybe a drop but that's about it.
Unit453 04-03-2012, 08:55 PM Dont waste your money on a CAI. Your stock air box is about as cold as the air is gonna get, and it flows damn well. I would also look at other brands of filtration other than K&N. Take a look at AIRAID, AFE, S&B or AEM. K&N is overrated and over priced for what they actually are. You're gonna want a sealed air box and most of these CAI systems are sucking in hot engine air, defeating the purpose. And they're really not producing any power gains either.
I personally run an aFe drop in.
Cuda Cliff 04-03-2012, 09:11 PM ..... Had to have one ever since my uncle made me watch vanishing point with him when I was 16.....
Today if someone heard that Your Uncle MADE you watch Vanishing Point at age 16 He would be reported to Child Protective Services! Vanishing point shouldn't be watched by a 16 year old boy becuse it had the Mini bike nude scene in it :eyemouth: PLUS as Sheriff Buford T. Justice would say..... The Total lack of respect for the Law! :weed:
Man I loved that Movie!!!!

Lol! We were watching it for the car not the nude scene.
CRAZYACE63 04-03-2012, 09:30 PM My first mod was to get a better sounding exhaust. I picked up the american thunder system since I liked the sound of it and the price was in my range. I got a tuner for mine but it's a 2010 r/t. My next mod is going to be a catch can and some custom billet work from billet technology. Then off to the store to pick up some Plasti-Dip for my wheels to get rid of the silver on my Hemi Orange chally. Good luck with the mods and this place will help you on your way.
Do the splash guards and cat-back, and then see where you're at money wise. You can still do a lot of suspension stuff, wheels and/or tires, various appearance items, under hood, interior, etc.
As others have said, don't bother with a CAI or a drop-in. It will make no difference and will put your warranty in jeopardy.

any recommendations on exhaust brands? what is the price range on a good exhause I know the whole its based on what i like for sound and drone etc. so far i know i dont necessarily like the way zoomers sounds but other than that i have no clue
OmahaRumble 04-05-2012, 06:29 AM Mopar splash guards mold to the body much better, are more durable, and made of MUCH better materials. All the RPIs are a small painted piece of plastic flap. Yes, they're cheaper, but you get what you pay for.
K&N drop in is fine IMO, the stock air box, especially '11+ are extremely efficient in drawing in a large amount of cold air. CAIs are for looks and sound.
Catback is all preference. Some like it slightly louder than stock, others like it balls to the wall (i.e. Zoomers, SLP Loudmouth 1s). Middle ground in sound levels would be something like a Solo Mach X exhaust, Magnaflow, or Borla exhaust. For more of a race car V8 sound go with Corsa. Go listen to others exhaust in person, that's the best way to gauge interest in what's out there.
mattyj724 04-05-2012, 07:06 AM Both Drop in and CAI will NOT put warranty at risk. I hate when people say this. A CAI, a TRUE CAI the pipe will go all the way down into thefender and the air filter will be out of the engine bay, Drawing COLD air. The sealed CAI that are in the engine bay will most likely still draw warm air. Either do a drop in, Or TRUE CAI.

Unless your goal is make the car look nice with the hood up, then go with a drop in. Also Mopar makes a drop in filter, if you want Dodge parts. CAI's arent really helpfull for hp gains.
Corsa is the best compermize between more sonud and obnoxious loud. Many cool sounding lout exhaust systems have horible drone at crewsing speed, so it makes the car uncomfortable at highway speeds, and useless on long trips. Corsa is the way to go. Loud at full throttle, more sound at lower speeds, and no drone at highway speeds. I drive my car 1200 miles to FL occasinoally and no issues.
