: Baby seat indentions in the headrest of my back seat (leather)

When I bought my car two weeks ago, the sales manager had been driving it. He put about 600 miles on it before I bought it and the dimwit put a baby seat in the back with a strap going over the center of the headrest. I'm not calling him a dimwit for using a baby seat but he could've at least put a towel under the straps to keep from embedding it into the leather headrest. Baby seats have to be very tight for safety so he should've at least known it was going to dig in and leave an indention. I was counting on it working itself out but after two weeks of using Zaino leather cleaner/softener and Zaino leather conditioner, it is still there. Unfortunately, the back seat headrest is part of the whole seat so you can't just replace the headrest by itself. Otherwise, I would raise cain with them and have it replaced. Any suggestions on how to work this out or is it something I'm going to have to live with? I don't think conditioning the leather is going to do it because the problem seems to be the foam inside from hours of being pushed down with heavy force and it has lost it's memory to rise back into place.

IMO the dealer should be responsible for making right. Hopefully some guys or girls on the forum have a trick they know to help you. I would call the dealer and explain your situation and see what they will do for you.

That's probably what I'll have to do but I was hoping to avoid it because it would be a hassle. The whole seat would have to be replaced if it can't be repaired.

Just have a baby and put the baby seat back in like it's part of the car lol
I'm sure the dealer will try and make it right

Are we talking a brand new Challenger or used? If used they may try to get out of it. But if this is a new demo car they need to fix. I would try some Lexol leather care and try pushing the indentations out. Maybe let sit in sun to soften leather.

It's brand new with only 1200 miles.

sounds like your dealer owns you some new seats

The dealer has a lot of leeway with regards to warranty items. For the most part, they decide what claims get accepted and what gets declined. If there is any question they call the manufacturer and get claims preapproved so they don't risk having some claims declined such as engine replacements, transmission replacements, etc. Sometimes interior items such as seats may fall into this as well. Given the fact that it was damaged by their employee, they will more than likely cover this. Or at least I would if I was the Service Manager.

Take it back and demand that it's replaced. What an idiot. Dealers really pi** me off.

If I were in your case, I would have it fixed by the dealer. I think they have more knowledge in what to do for safety. :)

A couple of things....

First, if Im not mistaken, that part of the seat isn't even leather (its vinyl). Second, most cleaners and conditioners will likely do little either way to penetrate and soften the material. 99% of leather in vehicles today is finished/coated.

However, I think Lane may be on to something with the "heat" suggestion. Personally, I would ask an upholstery shop what they may recommend. If its an easy fix, then you may just want to do that instead of dealing with the dealer. ....if there is cost involved, then you have an option to provide the dealer when you go back.

It's a simple warranty issue. The upper portion of the back seat is one piece and it can be ordered from Chrysler without having to replace the lower seat. I would have the dealer replace it. In theory they could remove the seat from the car and have it fixed and call you when it's ready to be reinstalled.

I would agree the dealer is totally responsible and needs to fix it without a doubt. Its not a warranty claim per se, as Chrysler really isn't responsible any more than they would be if the car got scratched on the dealer lot. The dealership needs to eat it. I wouldn't even waste any more effort trying to fix a defect they are responsible for.
