: Failed emissions, tune had been removed!

So I'm currently riding around with a big "R" (rejected) sticker in place of my inspection sticker.

I had run a 93/CAI tune with MDS off, but I had removed it was reset to factory completely. It's not like I had removed the tune in the dealership parking lot, it had been reset to factory for a while.

The dealership is unsure of why it's failing emissions because everything "looks" right, so they reflashed the car. No big deal, since there was no tune in it.

Now my instructions are to drive the car for 300 miles and then return to see if it will pass.

Has anyone ever had an inspection issue following the use of a tune that had been removed and reset back to the original settings??

I don't see what 300 miles of driving would do. What is more normal is to take the car from cold to normal temp. 3 times to cycle all the sensors. If a sensor was NOT READY it should have displayed that through the obd11 port. If they are ready and your CEL is off the car should pass.

it is a shame that most dealers are stupid. They can;t tell you why it is failing? Give me a break. Did they at least say what portion of the test is failing? Good thing is, Dodge (all manufacturers)has to provide emission warranty for 80k miles.

It's common for current auto manufacturers computers to need a seat time of 100+ miles logged after the last reflash. This is a security feature that has been implemented to keep people from pulling the battery right before going to emissions.

It makes sense if you think about it from that point of view.

I had the same issue in PA. Reset my tune back to stock the night before taking it to the dealers. Got a phone call asking if the battery had been dead because there was not enough logged data to emissions inspect it.

They knew what the issue REALLY was, though, and they didn't give me any trouble about it, drove it for a few days and they out the sticker on.
