: my R/T impressed me again!
woods 06-09-2012, 08:28 AM For starters a freak storm came through the area the other night and I got myself caught in some flash flooding about 5-6" deep... I just took it easy going through in second gear and didn't have any problems. Honestly was a little nervous going through...
On to gas mileage! My former car, an 06 Charger R/T with a diablosport tuner and SLP LMII catback could never manage to get better than 19mpg in my regular commute. It usually averaged around 18. My current 2011 Challenger has had a worst tank of 18. I recently hit 10,000 miles and switched to Amsoil; with Mobil 1 I was getting high 19 to low 20mpg and now my last 3 tanks with Amsoil I have seen 20.8, 21.03, and yesterday I averaged 21.6! This is all hand calculated using the same 92 octane fuel from the same pump. Very happy with my Dodge right now!
I wish you all the happiness, not only now, but always.
I am also happy with my car, I enjoy it a lot.
My family are also happy with the car, they even printed some of its pictures just to show to their friends in school :)
Hell Ride 06-21-2012, 04:14 PM Is the car automatic or stick? What rear gear do you have?
Trakpak1 06-21-2012, 08:15 PM The Challenger is a pure economy machine. I know cause I bought my Challenger R/t for fuel economy too...................NOT ! lol
I'm getting 24-25 mpg on my trips to work, which is perhaps 2/3 highway and 1/3 city. I put Amsoil in at 4500 miles, and am currently at 9500 miles. I can't really say if my mpg went up after that change or not, but I'd lean towards in helping versus making no difference.
zxrider11 06-22-2012, 06:48 AM Glad you survived the flash flood, sounds like you keep a close watch on numbers.
Here is a question for you:
Have you calculated the extra price of Amsoil versus the increased fuel economy?
What is the payback?
Does the 4-6% increase in fuel mileage justify the 20-30% increase in Amsoil oil price over Mobil1 or conventional?
How many miles do you have to drive to show a cost savings?

The syntehtic could just be run longer to even out the difference in price. Obviously an oil analysis from blackstone labs would be needed to verify it was still healthy, but often times as long as you've got a quality filter to go with the synthetic it can run for more than 10,000 miles no question.

You are consistently positive and welcoming to all in your many posts. It is nice to have your input. Just sayin'.
..Be well. That is all.

Can't speak for the OP, but I bought Amsoil due to it being the best there is. MPG meant nothing to me, and was not a selling point at all. In fact, this concept had not occurred to me until I saw this thread.
BayStateChallenger 06-22-2012, 08:19 PM I'm glad your R/T is working out well!
I am impressed with mine, eh....let's see.....
1. When I look at it.
2. When I sit in it.
3. When I drive it.
4. When I think about it.
5. All the time.
But seriously.....the whole dino-oil Vs. synthetic debate can last forever. Nobody's wrong. Nobody's right. Personally, I like synthetics because I believe they protect better, lubricate better, and provide consistent protection over their life expectancy versus traditional oil. I never knew anyone who blew a motor because of an oil problem if they used traditional oil and changed it regularly, to be honest.
Personally, I choose synthetics. Yes, they cost more. Do I run them to that 10K mark? NO. 5K at the most and they are gone. For me, I think about moisture and water versus mileage. My cars sit a fair amount and get very little mileage, so I am always concerned about condensation and whether or not the lubricants are absorbing water. Actually, I'm a Fluid-Nazi and change everything constantly. My Ram gets transmission fluid every 7500 miles and differentials yearly, or 10K miles, which ever comes first (yearly, actually), brake fluid (which absorbs water like a sponge), you get it.
Have I noticed increases in gas mileage? Nope. Have I noticed less engine noise, thrash, or clicking" Nope. But when I get a day here that's -15*F, I believe my vehicles are getting oil lubrication quicker and more completely with synthetics, and I also believe that they provide additional lubrication (I guess, "sticks to the stuff") if the engine has not been run for a while, so for me the additional $$ is okay and provides me with peace-of-mind.
I know it costs more, but I choose to do it and I'm okay with it, even if the benefits can't be proven in terms of dollars.

stick, 3.92 gears

have not calculated the cost difference but a friend of mine is an Amsoil salesman so I figured I'd give it a shot... especially since he sold it to me cheaper than I could get mobil 1. this is actually the most fuel efficient vehicle I've owned lol
KayTar 06-24-2012, 01:17 AM The best fuel mileage I got was 580kms to a tank.
I thought that was alright with the STP option.
