Hey guys,

Was looking in to this cat back system for a while now, just had a question for you V6 owners out there that have it, which size piping did you decide to go with? I was looking at the 2.5" system, how big of a difference does it make compared to the 2.25"? Also, how do you like the system and the sound? Lots of good reviews on this setup across the web, itching to pull the trigger.

The price of this system is good as well. Half the price of the Magnaflow system. Both SS only difference is the 2.25 versus the 2.5 inch. I am liking this system myself.

Summit has it for 675 with free shipping. I might just pull the trigger on this.

Nice looking setup!

Still though...$700 for a V6 system that won't produce much in gains?

I still think buying a set of mufflers and having a local shop install them is the way to go. Maybe I'm wrong...

I got this system for mine a couple of years ago. Of course i have the 3.5 but I'm sure they would sound very similar. The thing I have always liked about this kit is it doesnt sound raspy, there are several setups out there that sound good on throttle but raspy during normal driving. This has a nice tone and when you get on it, it sounds damn good i think. The biggest thing is too many people want a exhaust that is going to sound like a V8 and that is just not going to happen. I've had this kit for two years now and have been very pleased with it.

Found some pretty good deals on the web for much much less, hard to pass up.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't know if it's the 4 valve heads of the 3.6, compared to the 2 bigger valve heads of the 3.5 or more 'hemi' design of the 3.5 heads....and hell, it could just even be my ear, but it sure seems like every exhaust mod I've heard, the 3.5 just sounds better.....deeper and less tinny. More 'traditional' sounding, for lack of a better word.
This is one of the reasons (along with $$$), why I'm balking on doing anything right now.

I agree.

Actually, I have 10,000+ miles on my car now and the exhaust is sounding way better. Still kinda quiet at idle but under acceleration it has a decent sound both out the back and in the cabin. It definitely sounds like a V6 though. I don't think there is anything one can do to make the 3.6L sound like a V8. I have decided I will not be making any exhaust mods on this car.

Well I never looked at exhaust systems to get the V8 sound, you will only get that from that engine, just want a different tone/sound for my girl, plus for that price I figured why not.

the 3.5 is a 4 valve per cylinder motor. when he floors it my friends 3.5 challenger stock exhaust sounds a lot like my grandpas 73 new yorker 400 ci single exhaust. from allpar 09 review - 3.5 Challenger was always good for a burst of power. The powertrain was responsive at all speeds, and started moving before kickdown. The “instant on” power, while nowhere near as torquey or as impressive as the Hemi V8’s thrust, was gratifying and better than in many cars (http://www.allpar.com/reviews/2009/dodge-challenger.html#) with more modern, revvy engines; and the engine noise of the V6 was deep and subdued except on full throttle, when it produced an almost V8-like sound, not like the same engine’s sound when used in past vehicles.

I stand corrected...........:icon_cheers:
For some reason, maybe because of the sohc, I thought it was 2 valve. Never actually seen the combustion chamber of the 3.5.
With much I've read here about some folks saying the 3.5 is more tradional Hemi-Like, then the new Hemis, it painted the mental picture.

The Dodge engineers built a special exhaust system for the 3.5 Challenger to give it the best sound they could. You can hear the 3.5 stock exhaust on a 1/4 drive by in this Motorweek 09 review -http://www.youtube.com/v/CWjg7bktJ0Q...yer_detailpage (http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&key=d94426292b5d65adef9c5237a4eeb8d8&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.challengertalk.com%2Fforums%2Fshowthrea d.php%3Fp%3D1101252%23post1101252&v=1&libid=1340379240848&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fv%2FCWjg7bktJ0Q%3Fversion %3D3%26feature%3Dplayer_detailpage&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.challengertalk.com%2Fforums%2Fnewreply. php%3Fdo%3Dpostreply%26t%3D80562&title=Northern%20Illinois%20-%20Dodge%20Challenger%20Forum%3A%20Challenger%20%26%20SRT8%2 0Forums&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fv%2FCWjg7bktJ0Q...yer_det ailpage&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13403792855841)

I pull it every oil change 'just because'.
I'd definitely reset after a mod........

So just pull it and let it sit, then plug it right back in? Does the car need to be in any specific mode / gear or just off?

Most definitely 'off'.
It resets all the driving habits stored in the ECM back to default settings, from what I understand.
Seems to work. Haven't noticed a thing with the fabled 'gas pedal calibration' though.

Hrmm, I smell snake oil... But I could understand the computer being reset and then adjusting to new performance levels from mods. It can't really hurt anything so I'll try it as soon as I get the system on later today. Can't wait, especially excited to get those stock tips off, love the new ones I have ready to put on.

Nope. Fuse #2 is not snake oil. Pulling this fuse will indeed reset the adaptive features back to factory defaults. Not sure about the "adjusting to new performance levels from mods" though. The exhaust mod you are doing will probably change the sound way more than it will affect performance. Only a before/after chassis dyno can tell the story.

Right, that's more what I was going for anyway, I wasn't expecting ridiculous gains or anything like that, but a little better flow and sound is alright in my book.

Got the force II plus CAI and reset the fuse and am happy with the result...more of a growl but not overkill and car is more responsive. If at the least ,the fun factor just went up...

Just got home from putting the system on at work with a coworker, sounds great! Couldn't put my tips on cause we needed access to a cutter and some welding stuff, and that was all locked up so we had to keep the stock tips on for now, we will get those Flowmaster tips on soon.

Snapped a pic of my baby checkin her self out in the mirror.

Gonna reset the fuse tonight and see what happens.

It's slightly louder yes, but not obnoxious, although we will see how it sounds in a month or so. Sounds great with my K&N cai up front. Sounds awesome on the outside and accelerating seems smoother. I pulled that fuse too.

Thanks, drove all the way home with the windows down, haha. I love the new sound, I've read that most people say they couldn't hear a difference but it's significantly deeper and louder, sounds awesome. My neighbor was in his yard when I rolled into my driveway and he even thought it sounded great.

Maybe it's my imagination - or the picture's aspect ratio - but that tip looks too tall to fit in the stock opening. Are you going to have to do any cutting to make it fit?

It looks really good though!

Yeah we are gonna have to cut the end and just weld the tips on.

I'm getting a weird knocking sound from under the passenger side of the car now after we put the system on, it's only when I turn left though. My GF said she could feel it under the seat too. Any thoughts / suggestions? I'm starting to worry about it.

Is the noise new? Meaning since the exhaust mod install. Also, under what conditions is the knocking happening?
If this is a new noise you probably have something rubbing or bumping against the frame. Doesn't take much to be really noticeable in the cabin.

Yea it's a brand new noise. From inside the car it sounds like its coming from the passenger side wheel well, and like I said, today my GF said she could feel it under her seat. It's only when I have to turn left, which is odd. It's like a clunking noise, the more I turn the wheel left, the more I hear it.

Let it cool down a little and reach under the car. See if you can shake the exhaust and duplicate the noise. Shake at the tips as well.

Did they remove a wheel when they installed it? Check for loose lugnuts. I just went through this with a rear tire.
