hiya all..

just picked up a 2010 R/T in the Inferno Red with the 5.7 and 6 speed manual trans., also has headers and a cold air inlet with k&n filter

loving the car so far :)

i am new to being a Hemi owner and have a question about what ya'll are running for gas ... i know the owners manual says 89 octane, but around my area the only 89 is that "special blend" stuff of whatever it is...
the next higher one i can get is 92 and then ..93

just wonder what you folks run

thanks

thanksI have an 09 Inferno Red R/T,(great color),with shorty headers,K&N CAI & CORSA Xtreme cat-back.I bought the Diablosport Predator Tuner and installed the '91 Octane with CAI tune' that comes with the tuner and the car performs much better.I will be getting the car Dyno tuned and am considering having it tuned with 94 octane in the tank.

The 2009 owners manual states that the 5.7L engines with automatic transmissions use 87 to 89 octane fuels while the manual transmission models with the 5.7L engines are required to use 91 octane fuels.
You may want to put a tune in the car before jumping from 89 to 92 octane to avoid any performance issues.A Diablosport Predator or InTune tuner #7135 will allow fuel octane changes in a safe manner as well as many other options to increase your cars performance.

Running 92 octane will not hurt the car. Some people are under the mistaken impression running a higher then called for octane will improve performance w/o doing anything else. there can be issues if you ran a super high octane.

I even put the higher octane in my lawn mower.

I run only 93. My tune requires it. I usually only use BP, SUNOCO, Shell, Exxon or Mobil.

run the 91 or higher - the 'stick 5.7s just tolerate the 91 grade (I get slight momentary ping on takeoff in 1st/2nd gear).

The non-ethanol brands rate at 92 in my area, but the price is .80-.90/gal higher.

For the most part, octane is a reference to the fuels resistance to detonation (aka: pinging). Ethanol, while nit efficient, does in fact raise traditional octane ratings. E85 is comparable to 110 octane race fuel.

All this being said, mileage is best with straight gasoline; not blended fuels. I have an R/T, 6-spd and i always put 91+ in my car...not because it "performs" better but because my mileage is better. (27.4mpg, hand calculated, from Houston to OKC @ 75mph)

If youre going to tune on a 91 or 93 tune, DO NOT USE LESS THAN YOUR TUNE CALLS FOR! The tuners have cranked your timing thru the roof to squeeze out that last .5hp and running less can and will damage your motor OVERTIME WITH CONTINUED USE.

I hope this she's some light on the issue but i am sure a debate will quickly ensue.
