Howdy ya'll.

Need to pick your brains on a tire dilemma. I have a '09 R/T 6 speed I bought used earlier this year. Had 14k miles on it. At the time of purchase, 2 of the tire (eagle RS-A) were in good shape and two were not. Carmax replaced two of the tires with brand new ones, for free, with RS-A's. I had the new ones put on the back and the older tires put up front.

I am up to about 20-21k miles now and the two older RS-A's are starting to look like they need to be replaced. Since the back two are still pretty new, I was trying to decide if I should just go ahead for now and get two more new RS-A's so they all match, and then maybe in a year or two, get all new four tires.

Or, could I move the two newer RS-A's up front and get either Hankook Ventus's or the new BF Goodrich g-force Comp 2's on the back? Anyone try running different tires up front and back like this? The stupid RS-A's are more expensive ($192each) than the Hankooks ($168each) at discount tire. The BF Goodrich's are ($195each).

I really like the Hankooks or BF Goodrichs alot, and those were the two brands I was going to choose between when I was ready.

Mostly just trying to get the most bang for my buck since I got fairly two new tires on the back still.

Let me know what ya'll think.

I heard the Hankook V12 are the way to go.. I would change all 4 if you can get a good deal.

Seeing that you are from Texas, I would go with summer tires...not those bs all season RS-A's. Summer tires are better in the dry and wet than the all seasons could ever be. I had the RS-A's on my 2009 R/T and they had no grip whatsoever and they wore out about the same mileage. My 2012 R/T has the Summer Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires and lemme tell you it's like night and day. You will definitely love them.

Just picked up a set (4) of the Hankook V12s for $151 each with a $80 rebate. Getting them installed on Thursday along with a 4 wheel alignment. The only issues I've read is they don't like the cold much. Then again you are in TX and I'm in FL so that should not concern us too much. I'll report back next week after the install.

Running Pirelli P-Zero's here. 245/45 front and 275/40 rear. Excellent traction in my opinion.

I totally agree. Why so many bash the tires, I'll never know, but they have held up beautifully so far with over 13k miles. Still plenty of wear, and has a really great sporty ride. I like the fact that the sidewalls are stiff, really makes the car feel more on it's feet. They are costly, however. Glad it came standard for me, with the STP.

Otherwise, I would get the new BFG tires, those are excellent. I agree with others to get the summer performance tires.. All-seasons will compromise handling. If you have to drive in the snow, get some Blizzaks.

That is what I was thinking, about the summer tires. Thanks for the advice.

Anything wrong with getting two new tires, Hankooks or BF Goodrichs in the back, running the RSA's on the front till I can get two more summer tires for the front. Or is that a bad idea?

Rudedog, where did you get that deal from on the Hankooks?

Just go out, indulge yourself and burn the hell out of the good back ones until they are worn out like the front ones, then you can get a whole set of 4 matching tires. I'm interested in a tire that will wear better, so I too am watching the advice here. I had a set of Goodyear Eagles on my Impala SS (original tires) and they went 58K miles.

Save your money and go for the "old school" look with your Goodyear RS-A 245/45s in front and the super wide Hankook 275/40s in the rear.

Depends who you ask. Most tire places will tell you always put the new tires on the rear of the car regardless of the drivetrain. In this case I would agree with this philosophy as the rears will wear faster. With this being said, you shouldn't rotate your tires at 6k miles.

Shouldn't be a problem at all to run different tires while you get your funds together. I had Falkens on the front of my Trans Am and Toyo's on the back before I sold it, no problems.

If you were running two different tires from one side to the other, its a whole different story, especially if this was on the drive wheels.

Thanks Shockwave, that's the advice I needed! Wish I could replace all 4, but funds are tight right now.

If you get a staggered set of 4, make sure the fronts are bi-directional for side to side rotation. That is the end that will need it most, IMO.

When I migrated from the stock tires on my car, I replaced the rears first by about 2-3 months. The rears literally needed it that bad, to be replaced first, and it was a premo opportunity to evaluate the forward traction benefits of a wider size in the back, right away! ;)

I have to say ... when my rear RSA's wore out , I replaced them with BFG's G force and they were waaaaay better than the RSA's until I wore out the other 2 that were on the front (lol) and then went with Nitto Invo's and OMFG waaaaaaaaaaaay better than BFG's .... they laster 1 year and 5 months not sure of the mileage cause i was spinning them everywhere I go ... so I just ordered 2 more and the price of tires are waaaaaay up ... for petes sake they were $145 more than the last time I bought the same exact tire and size ... from $185 to $315 each .... My wife was pissed that they didnt last longer so I told her when she starts buying my tires ... then she can complain .. and not until then ..... I wont admit to her but I dont think i will spin these as much ....

I'm sure this has been covered before, but what about the 275/40 x 20's up front, as well? The difference in section width is 1.4" which is only a .7" increase on each side of the rim. The tread difference is .5" on each side of the rim. Assuming use of stock rim, is there not enough clearance on the inside for use up front?

I've read that you may or may not hit the limit with 255's up front, depending on the tire.

Well, my theory is. Keep'em stock in front, don't want more rubber in front, more=friction! slower=NO GOOD. Keep'em wide in the rear for that traction ;)

Get four new ones, you can always sell the used two on craig's list.

Any cold weather drivers running the hankook v12s in the cold. I'd like an all season tire staggered set up. I'm in NJ so winters may be bad

I ordered two of the BF Goodrich's for the back, then a few months from now, I will get the fronts ordered. I liked the reviews I read about them, so I will let ya'll know how I like them.

Looks like a nice aggressive tread. I imagine your priority is longevity over traction bc those tires have a UTQG rating of 340 A A Z

Whereas the F1 Supercar Goodyear*Eagle F1 Supercar (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+Supercar&partnum=445YR0F1SUPERCAR&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes)
have a UTQG rating of 220 AA A Y.

Just wanted to bring this to your attention in case of an oversight. Seem to be about the same price too. Let us know how you like those tires.

Your right Shockwav86, going more for longevity, but also with some traction. The BF's looked they fit what I was looking for the best. I will report back once I have had them awhile. Getting them put on this Saturday.
