With out a doubt the heads must come off to replace lifters.

Here's a cut-away of the 5.7 (this is the earlier one that had the cross-over plug wires) that shows the cam / lifter / pushrod / rocker shaft. The valve train is the same layout.

Some of the those lifters look like they would difficult to get out with the head remaining in place.

Yes.. The heads need to be removed to access the lifters. I am 10000000000% sure :) Hope this helps..

I ask because the valve train is so freakin noisy since having my cam installed. SOme of you may remember that after going racing after the new cam install, I bent a couple pushrods. Installed new ones, but has been noisy since, and getting noisier. Either the cam is starting to wipe or the lifters are going bad. I don't see how the lifters could be with only 20k miles on the engine, but I guess anything is possible. The car has awesome power and is strong, but I am affraid to race it or run it hard and risk breaking something. Had nothing but issues since the install and ready to put the stock cam back in. As you can see in my sig, I ran a 12:50 with the stock cam.......shoulda spent the money on gears or a converter instead!

Aren't you supposed to change out the valves if you get a bigger cam?
