Caming the 5.7
What are the implications of putting a new cam in the 5.7 - with the cylinder deactivation.
Other than the fact that they probably won't be deactivating as much I'm wondering how sensitive the ECU would be to a cam change, particularly the cylinder switchover phase.

Re: Caming the 5.7
I am slowly bringing myself back up to speed on the current tech and engines in prep for a new challenger.... From what I have gleaned so far, If your gonna attempt to modify the engine you prolly should start from the ground up... As in replace the cast pistons with forged, new bearings, possibly rods(still checking on that one), before even thinking about swapping the top end parts of the engine, One person I know say s they are a tempermental engine. But a lot of what I found out still reflects back on when I built my early dodges 67 to 74 and up V8s. Dont mess with the top end unless u rebuild the bottom. And of course finally the modern electronics/ computer systems , when changes are made to the engine for performance sake they need to be modified/ rechipped or all your changes are for naught. Aftermarket is in a major catchup mode for these kind s of changes with the automakers trying there best to not allow them to be changed.

Re: Caming the 5.7
well, this is my first post, here what know the cram won't give you much trouble, here a site for ya dodgetruckworld.com look under engine in forums and you get your answers on the 5.7,as far ecm there a pain DCX wont release there codes and been making it hard for aftermarket, but if you supercharge your 6.1 you could get 650 hp and 620 tq,the only supercharger that i know of is a paxton, put together by gsmotorsports.com check it out,i have had my s/c for over a year now very happy with it

Re: Caming the 5.7
But I don't think the trucks do not have cylinder deactivation...
That's what potentially makes it difficult for tuning.

the biggest problem with the dodge product is the nazi computer ECM,i guess check out srt forum and find for sure ,that why we're having to run a piggyback system on all of there products just have to by pass the ecm.some folks still have problems with cam change no matter what 5.7 they have
