I live in Albuquerque, NM with an elevation of 5300 feet, and the density altitude was 6500. I am stock, 1700 miles, with 275/40r20 drag radials on the stock wheels, I just have the Hellcat lower air box/cone and K&N filter. Took the rears down to 25 psi and bumped the fronts to 47.
Here are my slips, I am car 392. First race is against a 2015 SRT 6-speed Challenger, stock with Mopar CAI and Hellcat cone in the headlight. I got into the converter and punched on the green light:
Second race was against a stock 2013 GT500 Mustang 6 speed, this one I punched it off idle and spun a little bit:
My first time corrects to a 11.75@117.8 mph Not that I think I could run that but, I think it could hit 11s at sea level on a good day!
Those are strong numbers for that DA. I m very impressed. I have never been able to get my car to hook when I flash the converter from idle. The thing just revs so fast the tires don't have a chance. And, I run 305's. Maybe after I get the Mickey Thompsons it will hook like that (after I wear out these Nitto 555R's).
i took mine yesterday to the track 75f 10-15mph head wind i did tree passes best was 12.4 @112 i would done better but on the third run i got bad wheel hop in 2nd gear and i quit after that everything stock on the car i didn't even lower the tire pressure.

Wow........... congrats are definitely in order here Eric. I am very impressed, but not entirely surprised at your results. I'm one of the few on CT who really understands just how good those runs are here in Albuquerque. Albuquerque has got to be one of the worst places on the planet to race. Not only do we have altitude to deal with but heat & altitude which combined give us our typically terrible DA's. DO NOT doubt that you could run that 11.7 at sea level or very close to that. I ran almost a full second faster than my best here in Albuquerque at Beech Bend in KY with a DA of 1200. I have no doubt that you could run 11.7 or 11.8 at sea level or closer to sea level.
I am a bit surprised at how poorly the M6 Challenger Scat Pack performed. No doubt you are feeling very good about your car and especially upgrading to the A8 Scat Pack from your previous M6 SRT. I'm always a bit surprised to hear people poo-poo the difference between the M6 and ANY Challenger automatic. They make all this noise about having to have a HEMI and "just gotta have a muscle car" and got this much HP, and that many cubic inches, but then CHOOSE an M6 because that makes them "more of a man". Personally I'll take "faster" over "look at me,.... I know how to use a third pedal" every.......single...... time. When you own a muscle car its really really nice to FLEX that muscle once in awhile.
No doubt you are feeling a bit pumped up there Eric. Good on you....... :5:
Nice runs. I have never raced in NM, but I am seeing low 12s out of the 2015 392s stock, so I don't think high 11s are out of the realm of possibility.
Thanks for the comments guys, I'm still kind of grinning because I didn't think I could run that deep into the 12s, honestly my goal with the car was to hit 12.9 here in Albuquerque.
This is the first car I've ever run on drag radials, and I hope to whittle down my short times a bit, and then who knows...maybe a 12.6 or 5 will be possible??? :browsmiley: Hope so!
I have Made 60 0r 70 passes in my car in air from 355 to 2000+ and I would say you are probably near your minimum 60 ft for that DA/ET. The best thing is to maximize for the conditions. I would say you could lower your tire pressure for sure. I would go to 21 psi and then adjust it again right after your first pass. If the day is warming up then you need to adjust as the day goes. If the day is cooling off or you are racing into the evening time you may need to add air or you can extend your burnout a little. Also you need a good static burnout of 2 seconds minimum up to 4 or 5 seconds. I do my burnout in second gear manual the whole way in sport mode and then stick it in drive for the run.
I just recently ran as low as 18 psi and it seemed to hook the best ever (1.675 on a hero run). But I have 305's. The 275 would need slightly higher pressure. What brand are you running?
Those are great times for Albuquerque! Best I seen from an A8 Scat Pack with DR only is an 11.98, so can see you hitting that number with the better conditions. Have not seen anyone post an 11.8 with DR only yet, so an 11.75 might be tough to hit. In any case, congrats, that is killing it for your location!!!
This Member that ran at Milan did an 11.98 but then posted a week later that he ran 11.89. He is not talking about any other mods than just drag radials. Of course he ran in negative air when he ran the 11.89. It's simple to remove the air filter and that will pick up all of these cars.............Just sayin.
I ran my SP A8 last week at National Trails, car had 593 miles,full of fuel and MT DRs 305 x 35r x20 on 20 x 10Viper wheels. Car did 60' @ 1.91 and 12.4 @112.82
Last night at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia,Ohio I did 3 runs. Changes were 1/2 tank fuel,18 psi in DRs,40 psi in front.Car had 670 miles on it.
runs were 60'@ 1.79 1/8 @7.84/90.02 and 1/4 12.19 @ 113.07
When you coming up here to try your right foot out with the 700+ HP A8? Got her all broke in and ready for you. Put some Speedlogic trailing arms on the other night. That cured the bad wheel hop she had with the 305 drag radials. Going to mount up some 315/35's PZero's on 10.5" Triumph lighter custom wheels next week. We shall see which hooks better.
You guys get any wheel hop with the DR's on the street with the 6.4L?
I get wheel hop on the strip if the Drag Radials decide to spin. It's nasty. So I usually just abort the run. I do not burn my drag radials on the street. Try to conserve the rubber for the track. Make them last........Of course if I had a REASON to, like a 5.0 Mustang pulls up along side, all bets are off. Even then I would do my best to try and hook and go...........not spin.
I tried to get a Hellcat but there is something wrong with my brain paying more than MSRP. Keep in mind I live in So Cal.
Oh hey, sorry about that. Mike drives a SRT8 Charger or SRT8 Jeep usually, sometimes an Escalade - LOL, he's like Jay Leno...but I don't think he has a Mercedes.
As far as the power loss up here, a good rule of thumb is one second and 9-10 mph slower through the traps. I used to live in Cincinnati, I owned my 300 when I lived there, then moved up here. Best time in Ohio at Edgewater was 12.5@112, one year later same car in Albuquerque 13.5@103!!! It doesn't feel that much slower, but the time slips do not lie LOL
I haven't been to Edgewater in years Eric but they run T & T on Friday nights which is two hour drive in heavy Friday traffic, especially if the Reds are playing at home. I did go to Tri-Sate several times in the last two years.
I would think the altitude would be a 5%-8% loss in power. Do you have to tune for the altitude coming from flat country/
I always liked Tri-State, on a good day there it seemed like you could have the track all to yourself
As far as power loss, the people here say it is actually closer to 15%, being that is roughly what our atmospheric pressure loss(compared to sea level) is on a typical day...so my 485 hp is actually probably just over 400.
Been meaning to share, I went back to the track last weekend and made some decent passes considering the conditions. The DA was 8100-8200 and I cooled my car down nicely. My first two passes were my best which were( I'm car 392):
FWIW that corrects to: 11.69@119.99
I'm thinking my car laid down on the second run on the big end because the water temp was over 20 degrees hotter - back to ~203 by the beginning of the pass. I did run back into the 107s on later runs but I couldn't get my 60 foots back below 2 seconds as the track got worse as the night went on. They only prepped it initially.
I now have about 3900 miles on my car.
BTW I let a good friend who is a drag racer make a pass in my car for fun, he ran against a A8 Hellccat on stock tires and lost by .9 seconds LOL He ran a 12.4 to my car's 13.3. My friend spun bad off the line but still, there was like a 8 mph trap speed difference! He of course doesn't feel the DA as bad with the boost.
Nice runs for that DA. I have been looking all over the country for a good place to retire. MUST have good drag racing and good gun range. Sorry, I will not be moving to Albuquerque. I would probably faint at the DA! LOL
Haha lol, you get used to the thin air. This is actually a great place for retirees though and there's certainly a wild west mentality to guns out here. Not that I mind or anything, I've got mine...
You gotta have boost up here to go real fast though.
Heres your DA ON 8/22/15 @ 1:17pm
temperature: 85 deg f
uncorrected barometer: 24.595 Hg
humidity: 30 %
vapor pressure: 1.214 Hg
dew point: 50.072 deg f
grains: 65.4
air density: 77.266 %
density altitude: 8,567.944 ft
Heres your corrected time from NHRA new formula of 2011.
13.03 x 0.908668 = 11.840
108.15 x 1.086089 = 117.46
Heres your corrected time from drag time using the old formula they still use.

I wanted to get in one more track day before the track closed, went out today and on a DA of around 6500 I ran a new personal best - I am car 392 on the right:
By the way, that was a 2014 Camaro SS automatic in the left lane.
I also ran a 12.75@110.0 with a 1.88 60 foot on a DA closer to 6100 at noon. It was a good day here in Albuquerque, a lot of guys were running personal bests today
I was running 2.5 gallons of VP racing fuel 101 octane mixed with 3.5 gallons of Chevron 91 octane in my gas tank. I am still on the stock tune, just a tstat and Hellcat lower air box/K&N and drag radials of course.
My friend's stock Hellcat on factory tires ran a best of 12.1@119 with a 2.0 60 foot.
Going to put the stock RS-A's back on the rear soon for the winter
Nice runs with that high DA BUT if you can get the vp109 next time as it has a lot more oxygen in and the octane is 104 and pull the air filter out. Heres the weather on 10/25/15 @ 1:52pm.
