+1
the muscle car era winded down perhaps but the big blocks still had monstrous torque , as a teenager in the mid 80's ; I remember my shot down (tranny was slippin'gears / body parts flyin'off/and susp.+bumper low to the ground) '74 Grand Prix 455c.i. which it only took 1/3rd of the gaz pedal depressed to make the tires smoke from a standstill , until I backed-off .... I miss that big boat

What you are looking at is supply/demand/economies of scale. Yes, these seven figures these cars are fetching are due to the elitest 'collectors' driving the prices up. As our dollar continually spirals downward, the amount needed to buy into the prestigious club goes up. As far as the very wealthy enjoying their cars, it looks more and more to me that they dust off the car and have flat spots on the date coded glass belted radials. Driving the car? That might erase any inspection marks on the date-coded clutch!

Kelly, I guess should have stated they enjoy them for what they are, collectables. I know they will never actually get driven..

Re: 1972 challenger-Petty edition

I believe all RWD Mopars after 1971 are still hot (even a 1978 Dodge Monaco Police Pursuit car); it's just that the many specific 1971 and older models command a much higher value. As the old ones that command increasingly higher values over the years, I would think that they would drag the values up of the aforementioned newer ones too.

Wink Re: 1972 challenger-Petty edition

Regardless, can we expect to see a Petty edition Challenger?

Considering Chrysler love the loud colors of the late 60's and early 70's. Maybe one in Petty Blue...........

Well, they will probably have a blue for the Challenger, but it waits to be seen how close to Corporate Blue it really is.
