1973 440 six pack thoughts

Hi everyone.

I have a '73 challenger w/ a 440 6-pack, '70 front clip, 727 and 8 3/4 2.90.

I just want to get everyone's thoughts on what YOU think it's actually worth. If it was restored I would say $35-$45k. Currently there is some rust starting throughout the car unfortunately but not too bad yet. Gas tank needs replaced, dash pad is shot, drivers seat has some rips, trans needs rebuilt, engine still strong but probably should be resealed.

I say put about $10k into it and you have a good car again. :P I see just the motors going for $6k without carbs or $9k complete.

Every once in a while I put it for sale but other times don't want to. I do this because it has been sitting 10years now and haven't been able to get around to working on it.

I found some crazy guy selling one for $60k lol 1973 Dodge Challenger 440 6 Pack for sale in Huntley, Montana used with 0 miles

73 Was an awesome year, and when you're driving it, it'll put a bigger smile on your face than even a 2011!

From the pics, I'd say 3k............That car needs to be totally gone thru........10k would get the body decent.......Then there's the interior, motor and rest of the mechanicals, which could run upwards of 15k-20k........so 30k would make it a nice car......now since this isn't a numbers matching car and was retrofitted with a 70 clip and a 440 6-pak, your not going to get 60k.....more like 30k-40k (if you go through the whole car). Just my take on it.

Work on it!!! I have one..same color same setup..It's a Bad Ass Car..I will never sell it!! I got about 22K( Motor/Trans.Driveline ) and about 12K in resto.. in it. (I cant drive both or I would Race myself..and I wont let anyone else drive either Car..I think I love my 10 SRT..but I REALLY Love my 73!! She is a Garage/Trailer Queen..Track ONLY!!

The truth of the matter is this.....it's a '73 Challenger regardless of whatever else is presently on the car. The fact it currently has a 440 six pack in it is not necessarily a big plus. That makes the car more incorrect along with the wrong front end. Is the engine an original six pack motor or is it a standard 440 with a six pack manifold/carbs installed? Is the original motor available along with the correct front clip? If not, that's another detracting issue. If the body does indeed need 10k worth of work I think you might be very disappointed in what the car will bring on the open market. Prices at the various national auctions are down very significantly for even very correctly restored #s matching E body Mopars. I am speaking as a former judge for the E-Body class for the Mopar Nationals for several years. Oh....and that guy asking 60k for that car in Montana.....if he's serious about that price, 1. He needs to change what he's smoking. 2. He's going to have that car a VERY long time.
If it turns out that the motor in the car is an original six pack motor, you may be better off seperating the motor from the car and selling the motor seperately and parting out the car. Unfortunately, '73's are not a particularly hot item these days. I have a good friend with a '72 'Cuda 340 4 speed ( original ) with a gorgeous Hemi in it, done absolutely correctly, Hemi Orange, Shaker hood, Rally dash, 15X7's, Three speaker dash, P.S. P.B, Tuff wheel, etc, etc. The car needs absolutely nothing, and he can't get any kind of offer for it, period. It also comes with the original motor, trans. and hood. Something to consider when you price your car on the market. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with the car. It's awfully tough out there right now for a seller.

You should get off your ass and build it already. 10 years is nothing, I've held on to my 69 Charger r/t se now for 33, and still haven't restored it yet...getting there but it aint there yet. I'll spend another 10k on it rebuilding it, and realistically can only expect 30-40k for it when finished (its non matching numbers also, but has correct date coded block/tranny from another 69 RT Charger. I've been slowly working on mine for the last 3 years, i figure another two and i should get it roadworthy again. At least when mine's done, its a real R/T SE which does count a bit. With a 73 E body, it'd have to be an RT and to get the high prices you're talking about it'd need the correct motor, and be restored completely, not just renewed. And the resto would probably cost more than the car will sell for.

Unfortunately, a 73 didn't have a six pack option originally. You'd get more by selling the six pack seperately to the right party, and buying a 340 to put into it instead.

As a collectible, it's worth bupkis. But if you were to make it into a nice driver with a bit of rumble to it, then it would have a reasonable resale value. Just don't expect to make money on it.

I think you've gotten some good input here. I would not pay 10K for this car... sorry, but I think it requires a lot more work than what you may think. If I owned it, I would work on it myself and keep it... Just be aware that you will probably never get out of it what you put into it. At this point it needs to be a labor of love, not a money making adventure.

Add on top of it the fact that you are in Hawaii.. Your market is going to be limited to the island. That could be both good and bad. May not have many restorable vehicles there (good) or may not have a big market for classics (bad).

I don't know how rust is in your area, but Im guessing there's probably more than what meets the eye.

If its a real six pack engine, that alone is worth close to 10k rebuilt. He could probably get what he puts into it out of it, but not a lot more than that. In order to get decent money it has to be equipped right based on the options and build sheet, but pretty much any pony car from the early 70s is worth decent money. But as stated its only worth what the local market will bear, unless someone wants to ship it somewhere else.
