Re: 70 challenger bumper

If you have nice straight bumpers get them redone. The platers who sell the bumpers off the shelf may send you a bumper that has been straighten and done poorly. They may look good only to find they have a problem once you bolt them on, you may get lucky though. If yours are not good cores then personaly I would find some and have them re-plated. If you are not concerned with the 100 point show car thing then the repros are pretty decent, they are just not show chrome. More like the quality of plating that Dodge had back when the car was new.

While we are on this Bumper Chrome topic, I have a few thoughts or questions. When bumpers are chromed, isn't only one side chromed ? Whenever I've been under a car [ in fact I just went to see if I could tell on my '67 Chrysler Newport if the chrome was on the backside..doesn't seem so] I don't seem to recollect seeing chrome on the backside. If so, then why not ? wouldn't chroming both sides help protect from pitting ? { P.S. I'm somewhat ; thinking I should know these things ! !!} Of course the backsides cannot easily be waxed/buffed out !!!

Hi RM,
You are correct they never did chrome the back, they will have a little nickle on the back side just due to over run. You are right it would have helped to slow down the corrosion process but chrome will also rust. But of course the main reason is cost. It would have been deemed an unnecessary expense. As much as we love our cars it's still about bringing the cars to market as cheap possible at the greatest profit. Capitalism at it's best!
