Re: Question about R/T Challenger (1972)

Here is a Link to some Mopar codes:

There seems to de a code for Rallye Challengers. A57

A57 F-Body Road Runner or R/T Package, Monaco 500 Package, Cuda 383 Package (69), Challenger and Charger Rallye Package (72-74)
I'm not 100% on that, maybe other readers can expand on this.

As far as the accent stripes, the only other stripes I could find were the ones that go from the front fender to the base of the B pillar. I have a LINK here to a red Challenger from a 1972 brochure... If I remember right these may have been painted on also.

Re: Question about R/T Challenger (1972)

A57 is the Rallye option code for Chargers and Challengers. The only stripes available 72-74 were the strobe stipes that Rodkil mentioned in his earlier post. Per the picture in the link they extend from the strakes rearward and are segmented. If you go to the Year One site they will show you picks of the stripes on the correct year application.

Re: Question about R/T Challenger (1972)

Here is a link to a 73-74 Challenger with "Painted" stripes article;
Exterior Paint
Challenger Rallye still had the dummy air ducts on the front fenders with the strobe stripe extending along the door but the base models could now have a painted accent stripe that traced the upper contours of the body.
These are more and more rare each year because they have to be Painted back on, No stickers. V6W was the code for the strobe stripes so I would think V7W would be the code for the Painted stripe.

Re: Question about R/T Challenger (1972)

Well fellas,

My friend and I have been working VERY hard on my car for the past week or so. (I never found the build sheet while tearing everything out either, sadly).

Anyhow, wanted to post a 'progress' pic.

I must admit, the more stuff we strip out (especially the dash, wiring harness and all of the exterior trim pieces) the more scared I become that I'll never get these parts back in later on. *gasp*

Here is a couple of quick photos, sorry for quality, I took them with my phone last night but wanted to share!

Re: Question about R/T Challenger (1972)

Having suffered from an electrical fire under the dash on my 70 Beeper some years ago I strongly suggest that you do not reuse the original dash wiring harness (or any of the harnesses for that manner). Complete, new replacements are available thru Year One. Depending on the car it sometimes takes them a while to ship, so order well in advance so you have it when you're ready to reassemble. While not cheap it is a worthwhile investment. Also, if you don't have a shop manual for the car get one. They're available on CD and will save you lots of time and trouble putting the car back together. The wiring diagrams alone are worth the price.

Re: Question about R/T Challenger (1972)

Thanks again. I will get that CD rom you talked about. Damn those wiring harnesses are a lot of quid! But I'm going to get all new throughout, it's worth it.

Guys, I'm having a hard time finding a few parts I really need for my car. I've been looking online for some time to no avail

I'm looking for front/rear bumpers, don't care if they're repo or not. Also, on the front valance, there is a plastic 'lower grill' piece that is badly damaged along with the chrome trim that I need to replace. Any idea where I can get these parts?

I'm sure I'll be back asking for other things, can't tell you how much I appriciate all your help.

I got the whole car sandblasted, I just have to finish the doors and hood. Tore down the motor last night, it was lickity clean...I couldn't believe how clean it was. Might not even have to bore it out it was so fresh, that made me feel good. That and seeing the forged steel crank kinda gave me some excitement. Can't wait to order parts for the engine now. Taking it to the hot tank tomorrow. w00t!

I'm really stoked, this has been a life long dream to be able to do this car right. My savings are dwindeling, but I don't want to do it 1/2 assed, I want it done nicely.

Re: Question about R/T Challenger (1972)

just wanted to let you know... i was looking through my red book and im not sure if someone has already posted this but... your car is simply a a 1972 2 dr hardtop the code for rallye would be JS23, you said yours was JH23 right? also, not knowing if someone told you, the r/t package was not available for 1972, the rallye is what replaced it. sorry i cant help you find parts but if theres something else, i can check the book to find anything for you. and remember, its your car, build it the way you want it, you'll be the one driving it, not that little asshole that wants to tell you you did something wrond, later
