I generally like the way the car sounds stock, but I really like the popping on deceleration. The videos I have seen where the mid muffler was removed seemed to have a lot of this. I'm not sure if it was a result of the muffler delete or something else. Is the muffler delete the easiest/cheapest way to back crackle?
I have the mid-muffler delete.. replaced with 3inch pipe.. i have the crackle/pop that you are referring to. It is a pretty nice sound effect and it gets even more heads turning to see what monster is pulling up.. very pleased with it
I got the crackle effect when I did the Blastin' Bob's Reso Delete. I recently added the Zoomers exhaust and the crackle is still there. I think the resonators hold back the exhaust a lot. I am actually considering removing the resonators from the Zoomers and reinstalling the BB Reso Delete kit. I just don't know if it's worth cutting up a stainless system. I believe the resonators on the Zoomers Kit are pretty free flowing and I don't know if deleting them would make the system any louder. Any thoughts.....
anyone delete both the resonators and the mufflers and just have straight pipe from the X pipe back? How does that sound? Also anyone run long tube headers with straight pipe from the collectors to the rear? Got sound clips? just curious.
Not sure if you're still looking for options. I did the mid muffler delete with a 3" straight pipe to the resonators. I have a 15 SRT392 6M.
No check engine light. Lots of burble and pop! Cost about $100 to do the delete. Sounds freakin amazing! I'm sure changing out resonators sound great as well, but as a simple job that can be reversed if you don't like it, it can't be beat. Do that first before you purchase new components and have them installed.
Probably the best mod you can do to get aggressive sound for the money!
Still loving it! I probably have had at least 5 people come up and ask what kind of exhaust setup I've had. Borla, Corsa, Flowmaster...etc.
No codes generated, and plenty of gurgle, pop, and all out meanness.
Seriously, try this mod, if you aren't impressed with the sound, you're out $100 and just put the mufflers back on. Way better than spending $1500 on a catback in my opinion! You won't be disappointed.
The active exhaust behaves as it would normally. Closes up after the car runs through it's start up cycle, and opens with the throttle in each of the modes the way it does factory. –You can just hear more from the exhaust all of the time, and in all throttle positions.
Did the mid muffler delete on my brand new SP two days after purchasing it. Love this mod. Don't get any real crackle of pop tho, just a nice deep rumble. Now with 1100 miles on this setup I'm ready for a bit more. Not straight pipe more, just a bit more. So, I've fabricated up my version of the resonator mod by cutting up a set of Flowmaster dual 4" round tips, welded up some 3" pipe and shorty resonators. Had this setup ceramic coated and will be installing this weekend. Should make for a bit louder tone with the small resonators there to kill any rasp and minimize potential drone. With my 6m currently don't experience any measureable drone with the mids deleted and really don't expect any after my Reso mod. Can't wait.
And another. My SP is crystal granite and the only shiny, non black or gray items on the car are the factory tips. I think the black 4" dual tips will look nice and certainly fill the space that the factory tips used.
The muffler shop said they'd do a custom job on mine if I wanted. Pretty much an axle back exhaust that would cut out the stock 2 3/4" pipe and make it a straight through from X crossover to the resonators at 3". I'd either keep the resonators or swap em with Flowmaster mufflers and tips. I'm not a fan of the quad tips on the Challenger. I like them on mustangs and cameros, just not the way our back end is built. The stock looks best, just need to powder coat them black, as that's the last bit of chrome left on my granite Crystal.
I always thought the stock exhaust sounded amazing until I listened to a guys SRT on Youtube that did the Flowmaster Super 10's and deleted the resonators. I went with that setup and it just sounds awesome! Not only that, but I made some AES (active exhaust valve) simulators so I could always have the full rumble of the exhaust available at all times without the PCM controlling them. Very happy!
Flowmaster 10's no resonators. Bounce back between time stamp 0:04 and 0:18 and listen to the difference right when it starts up. So much deeper and meaner:

I just enjoy reading about those of us that just love loud exhaust systems, there are many ways to accomplish better-than-stock sound.
I for one, just deleted the resonators and the "mickey mouse" stock phony exhaust tips (the cheapest item on an SRT or any Challenger) and installed two 5 inch round tail pipes and along with cut outs..........not for everyone I know but, I just love how it sounds! I did also make some exhaust panels to hide the square shape of the stock rear fascia, do what you will as long as you get what you want!
Enjoy your exhaust system by whatever means you can!
This is my SRT exhaust..............5 inches, this is what my 1970 Chevelle W/ a Merlin 540, 820 HP race car has and so does my Dually, just love them.
Pulled fuse 36 this week in my '15 SP. AES valve stay open and no check engine light for two days. Pulled battery cable and light turned off. Pulled fuse again and valve stayed open for two days of driving before CEL.
Has anyone thought about, turning the active values into auto-cut-outs? Replace the active valves with straight pipe that has a "Y" off of it. (lust like cut outs).
During normal operation, the exhaust flows in the straight pipes (active values closed). Then when you give it hard peddle, the active values open, acting as cutouts.
This is assuming the active values open when hard peddle is applied. If so, we could use the active valves to our advantage ?
Any thoughts?
I like your "out of box" thinking, but I don't think the cost would be worth it. The active valve delete device posted earlier seems to me to be a more elegant solution
Replace the mid mufflers with 27" glasspacks and lose the resonators. It will just gurgle at idle but when you rev or decelerate it will pop like a stripper in a rubber thong.
You know, years ago it became impossible for me to even hear the word 'crackle' without laughing. Now, I pass the gift along to you. That's right, time for a little Cracklin' Crotch!
see here guys what jegs chat told me after i asked him about the cherry bomb glasspacks
i told him that i deleted the resonators and replaced them with 3" pipes what lenght should i go with for pops and what is the inlet outlet size for my exhaust
he said :
" Just cut the mufflers off and dont use anything , adding glass packs to deleted resonators is like putting a resonator back on. To get it exhaust to pop or crackle you need no flow restrictions "
when i showed him the vid i want to have he siad it will be close

Well running straight pipes with no resonators or mufflers will defintely crackle. It's going to sound like Armageddon coming when you step on the gas, too! I disagree somewhat with the guy from Jegs, because my wife gets exhaust crackle on her truck, but he is right in that it won't be as much as if you were running straight pipes. But damn that's gonna be loud as Hell.
