I'm thinking of trading in my lightly modded RT for a new scat pack and was wondering if anyone on here has done the same? If so how do you think the stock 392 compares to a modded RT?
I was thinking of doing the same but the trade in they were going to give me for my rt was horrible. So with the money I would have had to put down, I just threw in a procharger. Plus, I have already customized it to my liking.
The 392 stock will be quicker. The new 2015's are light years ahead in the interior department as compared to the 14's and older. That alone should seal the deal.
When I was looking at the 392's I test drove a 14. Loved the car but then realized that the 15's were coming out. I bought a 2015 392 for the same cost as the 2014 SRT8 (4500 under msrp) and am glad I did.
To give you an idea my buddy has an R/T with tune, intake, shorty headers and he traps about 80-81mph in the 1/8. That same day my stock 392 6 speed was trapping 84-85.
With that said, an R/T has a lot of potential. Throw a nice cam in there and some longtubes and you'll be a happy camper. Lot more to the SRT package than just power however with brakes and suspension. Your car sure looks nice though!
Not sure if you prefer manual or auto, but my cars have to be auto (for a number of reasons I'm sure have been discussed at length on here). That said, I knew I could mod my RT to be as fast as I wanted it to go. But what really swayed me was the new 8 speed. The A8 and 392 together made for a whole new experience. It really is a very fun setup to drive. If Dodge would have stuck with the 5 speed I would still have my RT. Good luck in your decision.
Couldn't have said it better myself, I had lightly modded 2009 A5, test drove an A5 Core and just didn't seem worth the investment... but after driving an A8 Scat Pack I couldn't resist. Now just waiting for tuning to become available so we can get some reduced torque management and really have fun.
Having owned both a stock RT and now a 392….except for the body, it was like driving two different cars. It was that different…you do have a nice RT though!
I just traded in my 2014 R/T for a new SRT 392 and the SRT is lightyears ahead. The R/T rode surprisingly nice but the A5 could be finicky. If you're at the bottom of the power-band and gave it some gas hoping for a downshift, and not using the manual shift, the engine will bog down. That was the most annoying thing about the A5. The A8 is supremely superior and so intuitive with the rev matching on downshifts. I've only had mine for a day and could probably write a book on the differences I've noticed personally while driving. Then you get to the exterior and interior styling, engine, breaks, suspension, exhaust, tires and wheels.
As much as they were hated on there was a lot that I loved about my 2014 R/T but GSMC said it right when he said it is like driving two different cars.
