There are enough of us floating around with Yellow Jackets on order now that we should start our own thread!
This will be the place to post your pics when you finally take delivery on your Yellow Jacket in just a few short weeks.
For now, introduce yourself, tell us where you're from, how you've optioned out your Yellow Jacket, what upgrades you are planning, and maybe other cars in your fleet. I'll go first.
I'm from Evansville, IN. Ordered a 6-spd, upgraded tires, NO sunroof, 730N w/ Premium Sound, Mopar Appearance package. My Speedlogix catch can is also on its way (thanks Shawn!) and skip shift eliminator. Eventually I want to get the Speedlogix CAI, Zoomers exhaust (maybe, I have to hear it in person first), and the back-up camera. Before I even drive off the lot I'm going to have them activate the DRLs and Navigation input while driving.
Other cars I own: '05 Audi A6 and '01 Nissan Pathfinder. This will be my first Mopar!
Thanks! No other newer challengers, one 71 and 70 cuda! Nice to own something that there are not 5 or more every show... Camaros, vettes. Always a ton of them. Don't get me wrong, I love them too and owned a 68 and 71 Camaro but one of the reasons for buying the limited YJ. Don't think I'll see many of them!
Live in California, SF bay area, Know people have bought them, haven't seen any. Live within 10 miles of top 2 Challenger dealerships in U.S. and haven't seen any driving around, so I know how u feel.
My YJ won a prize at a car show this weekend where there were over 100 Challengers in attendance. I'd post pics but I'm afraid of getting banned from this forum. But trust me when I say that all YJ owners everywhere would have loved it!
Had the YJ since 2/24 and 1000 miles. This is an awesome machine, runs good, comfortable and turns lots of heads. Installed stealth splash guards to keep the chips down and some of the stuff off, Lockpick V4 for NAV and camera and Boyo VTL backup camera. All very easy installs and seem to do what they are designed to do. The camera does have quite a bit of washout from the license plate light at night but I haven't messed with it yet. I haven't quite gotten the timing of the double button to turn the camera on yet as I still get the "what do you want" message most times. My biggest complaint so far is that the paint job on this car really stinks. It has lots of orange peel and multiple dust particles in it. I spent two days claying, polishing and waxing and am still very disappointed with the paint on the car. I might just be picky as everyone else seems to think it looks great. I haven't seen another one on the road yet. There's one at the local dealer for about a month now. Ours is auto, hole in the roof, 430N and F1s. It needs a catch can and exhaust then I think it would be about right.

The relay would probably be the best option. The reverse lights provide plenty of light for a decent picture if you kill the license plate light.
Almost forgot another need to have, Escort 9500ix. I don't race around but this thing is just begging to show me what it has! I'd love to do a track day somewhere.
Picked this one up last night. Six speed - no options, did not want a sun roof "never use them" so this one followed me home. :grinbiginvert:
It's garage buddies are my '10 GT500 and '11 Avalon "daily driver". Looking foward to interacting with the forums and hooking up with the Houston MOPAR crowd.
Kinda nice to know that my YJ wasn't the only one with a "dirty" paint job! After several days of claying, waxing, and a lot of elbow grease, it now looks pretty good - but I definitely agree that the paint job leaves much to be desired.
However, I absolutely can't believe the number of stares and turned heads this car gets - it's crazy, but kinda neathyeah:
Mine was only dirty because I did the external PID. I took the car as it came off the hauler. I prefer to do my own detailing. The paint on my car is a good as any production car I've owned. No complaints from me.
Same here, I used to paint cars back in the day, late '70s and '80s. My YJ paint is as good as I have seen on a production car. Can't say anything bad about it. People who received ther YJ car between 2-15-12 and 3-1-12, how is your paint ??? Wonder if bad paint jobs came in batches or just random. Chime in. Register your YJ on the Challenger registery !!!!!:signed:
No, we don't expect a paint job like a Rolls. We do, however, expect our paint job to be free of dust and other particles. I don't have a YJ. I have a 2012 black SRT that was built in November. I too have dust. I also have 3 spots under the clear coat that look like something touched the paint and made 3 lines, almost like a tiny brush. And finally, I have paint bubbles popping up on both sides of the car.
Like a Rolls? No. Like a modern day car should be painted? Yes.
My Yj i noticed has drip marks in the paint on the bottom side of each mirror. Love the car but for 50k+ real obvious paint imperfections should not occur. I'm not a perfectionist by any stretch of the imagination but for the premium paid for these cars I think it's not unrealistic to expect a higher than average quality product. Having said all that, when the car came off the carrier, a guy on the street stopped and asked if there was a car show in town and wanted me to take a pic with him and the car. Pretty cool.
Hit my second car show with the YJ today at a 6th annual event for cars and aircraft. Nice little airport and 300+ cars/trucks. Picked up Best Mopar award.. Looking forward to a summer of shows and cruises..
Just got back from my 1st ever, SLOW roll and jumping on shots on a nite cruse I just did. WooHoo Twice into 3rd gear with traction control off , and once into 4th gear, with traction control on. LESS tire burn and wheel hop into 2nd gear (6 spd) and into 3rd did not tire bark as much, with traction control ON . next time I get out, I will go from stop. Practice launching next time. I hear around 2000 - 2200 RPM. Wash YJ tomorrow and put back garage. Car Show 4-29-12. 19th Annual Benicia High School Car Show, (google) downtown Benicia by the water . First show for me this year, can't wait.
Why NOT like a Rolls? Is the Rolls painting process that much different? Like I said, my YJ paint looks good, but certainly not great. And, both outside mirrors have drip-spots on the bottom (perhaps a YJ trademark?).
I love my new YJ, it's definitely a headturner, but the paint job still leaves room for improvement. My 9-yr-old Infiniti and 2-yr-old RAM paint jobs look much better than my YJ's.
Sure is. All high-end car manufacturers use top notch state of the art painting processes and continually update their systems. You would never see a $150k + car be delivered with blemishes, sags, drips, runs, fisheyes etc. Those manufacturers take pride in their work and want to give the best to their customers.
Want to see a quality paint job, look at a Lexus. My SRT8 cost 7k more then my neighbors Lexus and his paint, fit and finish is just crazy good.
There is no excuse for poor paint jobs from the factory anymore.
So this past sunday (April 22nd at/about 3pm) My wife and I were driving between Abilene and Salina KS.
My wife said "Hey that is a beautiful Yellow Challenger" I looked over and told her that it was a Challenger Yellow Jacket! She said that it was one beautiful Challenger!
(I agree)
I was wondering if that Challenger belongs to anyone here at Challengertalk?
I wonder if it is a Brampton thing. My SRT10 had a perfect paint job (solar yellow) and so did my 2007 Grand Cherokee. Never saw paint issues on the SRT10 forum nor the jeep forum I was on.
It is a plant thing. Believe it or not, the quality imposed in paint is 10x higher than in trim/chassis/final. They were meticulousness in the process. When Chrysler is building a plant, they start with paint first. I'm not sure how the blemishes popped up. I worked at Warren (Ram 1500 only), and it would seem impossible for something to go wrong in paint bar the machines screw up.
I'm speaking with first hand experience here. However, one of the workers that had come from GM said their paint quality was 100x that of Chrysler, which I thought was top notch. And seeing as the Warren truck has the highest quality of Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler/Fiat, I think it says something about the other Chrysler paint facilities.
The drips you see on the underside of the mirrors is on every Challenger. I think it either the injector spot or the attachment spot like you see when you get a model car where everything is attached to a common piece. On a Rolls, they hand finish the cars and would sand that off and repaint. Not so on mass produced cars. Yeah, you should expect a good paint job, they have had over 100 years to perfect the process, but you will never get a flawless one.
Looks like a great weekend. Big car show Half Moon Bay saturday and sunday, then another car show on sunday in Benicia. Busy weekend. Got to clean YJ a little, will post some pixs. Register your YJ Challenger on the Dodge Challenger registery, up to 12 YJ's now.
Finally tried some Plastidip on the fuel door. Just a few coats to see how I'd like it. I like a lot better than the chrome. How bout the rest of you YJ owners?
Thanks to jesseg9163 and DAHBOOM for their posts in a different thread.
Hi guys. I bought my YJ on 3-23-12. The dealer said that someone ordered it and then backed out of the deal. It's an auto with the sunroof, 730N upgrade and the 3-season tires. Found a manifest in the glove box with a date of 1-31-12, so I'm not sure if that's when it was ordered or built. This car is a blast to drive and gets a lot of looks. I live in the Orange County area of Southern California and am surprised that I haven't seen another one out on the road yet.
Wecome from Nor-Cal, congras on new YJ. Yeah you dont see to many out on road......NONE. I have not seen another , but know of one close to me in north Bay Area. Cars are nice......
