Overkill IMO. I would think, if it was that important it would be in the manual. Just curious, how did the oil look? Never had any metal shavings in any of my cars' 1st oil change. 3k for me, then every 4k.
Always changed my new cars at 500, then 1500, then 3000. After that whatever is recommended. Reg oil every 3, synthetic every 5. Its how I was taught growing up.
Don't know whether you have an SRT, R/T or SXT but.............
SRT's come from the factory with synthetic (5w40 now but used to be 0w40) and should stay that way always.
R/T's come with regular oil but can be switched over to synthetic after the first change.
From talking with tech's (of which I have a few friends that are Chrysler/Dodge mechanics) they recommend that once you are synthetic then always stay synthetic.
As for the intervals you can choose to change the oil at 500 or 1500 miles for the initial break-in if you want but it is not required. After that do a regular change based on the recommended schedule. If you reset the "oil change" light on the EVIC every time you change it will then do it's own calculation to determine when the next change is required. This includes the miles, how you drive, speed and a few other factors if memory serves. I have had this light come on a couple times earlier than anticipated because of my "spirited" driving and such during the summer.
I have a 2014 SRT which came with Mobile 1 0W-40 and my two oil changes have been Mobile 1 0W-40. Now I don't know where you get the 5w-40, this is out of the 2015 SRT owners manual page 478
"The manufacturer recommends the use of Pennzoil Ultra ™ 0W-40 engine or equivalent MOPAR® oil meeting the Chrysler Material Standard MS-12633 for use in all operating temperatures."
I will find out what the 2015 SRT has come the 28th when my 2015 SRT is delivered.
