I see a lot of parts for sale on the used market and I understand the risk of buying used, but would you buy these items if the price is 40% less than new and was in reasonable to excellent condition?
Yes, but I'd probably be more likely to buy if it was from a long time member as opposed to someone that just joined and only has a couple of posts. In fact I've bought a few used items (I'm on my third set of used drag radials lol) and I've sold some perfectly good stuff for cheap. So yep I'd do it and have, so far no issues either way (buying or selling).
I've boughten most of my mods off a few webpages and even facebook pages. As long as you're safe about it, you're good. I always have them send me a pic of their drivers license or something. I find I am less likely to get screwed if I know the sellers complete info!!
Thanks for the replies, and I guess I should add that I'm not necessarily concerned with the internet trading part as much as the life or integrity of these parts. I've bought/sold hundreds of items on forums so that's nothing new (although I think about the law of statistics at times lol).
I've bought two Trinitys from members on here; absolutely no problem either time, but as mentioned above, they were long time members.
I've sold the OEM leather covers from my Scat to another member on here; in that case, I made sure to send him detailed pictures of exactly what I was offering, both for his reassurance as well as my own protection. No problem with that transaction either.
Ask for detailed pictures; if the ones you are sent aren't to your satisfaction (a real car guy would know what pics to take to satisfy you), ask for more or walk away.
Would depend on the part, some parts have wear factors, I would never buy anything electronic used, except may radio. Also I do not pay more than 50 cent on the dollar for used parts.
Suspension parts like springs are factored more by time on the car than miles as they support the cars weight 24/7 minus any time the car spent airborne, then in that case you may want to avoid them altogether as there is never a "happy landing" for a 4000 lb car.
