Hey guys I want to get my 6.4 in my 2015 R/T up to 600HP in the future. I was curious if a cam swap means I can't keep the MDS system working in the car? Also are there cams that will not mess with the cam phaser too much?
anytime you go blower with the 6.4, drop in forged pistions are pretty much automatic unless you feel like playing russian roulette with your car's engine. they run 800 bucks minus labor. plus you have to worry about fuel, spark plugs, injectors and a/f and boost gauges for FI.
Save your money for a blower, well worth the coin. The cam will be costly for the small bump in hp.
Dollar for dollar a blower and pistons is worth the wait IMO. Iv dont it all.
Any mods its going to be awhile before you can. No Tuning.

As has been said, tuning won't be available for a while I'd guess. Took the aftermarket over a year to crack mine (2012) from production start. Id say that 600 hp is achievable though once tuning is available.
To get a 2015 392 to 600hp I would:
Get a comp 270 phaser cam
Get Thitek heads
Get your intake ported by Peak
Use a 90mm throttle body
Get full length headers and hi flow cat
180 t-stat
Cold air intake
And a GOOD CUSTOM TUNE to tie it all together.
This should get you to 600hp and still be very docile as a street driver. Then you wouldn't have to deal with boost issues like others have said.
By the major component parts list above, you can see that this would be expensive to do yourself, and even more so by someone else to install. But it can be done without supercharging if that's what you want. Just my .02
I agree with all of that besides the Thitek heads. No need to waste 3700 dollars on those. Yeah they're badass but you only need those for stroker builds in my opinion. Leave the heads out and do the rest of it. It should get you around 490 at the wheels:
412 + 35 + 25 + 15 + 5 + 5 = 497 whp or 584 crank hp. Spend that 3700 bucks from the heads and use it for suspension upgrades like front and rear strut tower braces, sway bars, springs, etc. Heads just wouldn't be worth it.
Yea the 5.7 was said to be the same weak piston motor that I boosted 8psi and ran 11s all day long for 40,000 miles, wow so weak a pos motor.
And dont forget all the ring lands that will just blow right out of the exhaust once boosted. "eyeroll" I heard the same Bull ****....

Yea, the 600hp number is tuff to get. Same as in ET
Seems, once you get to 12.0s and the lower you go the harder it is to go faster.
Then once ya hit 500rwhp and over,,, it takes more and more to get that next 100hp
and even harder to get past the 600hp mark.
The key IMO is to make it all happen in Harmony...........
To get into the 1099 it will take every bit of 600rwhp in Harmony.......and aprox 100mph in the 1/8 mile. And add a good 60ft to boot,,,, 1.8 or lower.

On the mds IMO the mds lifters are weak. It only got me 1 or 2 mpg with the mds. So to me it wasnt worth having mds in the car at all. My delete was replacing the lifters and the solonids.
I'd be happy to get an additional 50 to 60 RWHP on my stock Scat Pack.
I don't want to get too far beyond that because I want to keep my low end torque numbers. This is why I'm unsure of cam choice, because it will usually cause a drop in low end power. My car is a STREET driven daily driver, and torque is where it's at.
There are no off the shelf cams available for the VVT hemi that will not cause a torque loss down low. You WILL lose low end, just depends how much by what size cam you get. There are quite a few custom cams out there but I highly doubt any one of them won't take away some low end power.
The guys who say that they did not lose low end doing a cam swap also added headers or something else at the same time that by itself would gain low end torque, thus canceling out the negative effect of the cam swap.
I'm talking cam swap only, you will lose 20-40 lbs or more depending on rpm used and cam specs. Now cam + long tube headers = good results! This seems to be almost universal on the hemis at this point.
