Re: Better Cooling Mod....

Removing the engine cover will promote better air circulation under the hood. Also, dump two bottles of Redline Water Wetter into the cooling system, that will help cool it down for you, usually 8-12 degrees in my experience. I've used it for 12 years, and you can see the decrease in coolant temps.

Re: Better Cooling Mod....

engine temp is controled by the thermostat and fan settings. some things might make it take longer for the engine to build up temp. but it will reach what ever the thermostat is eventually. there is no way around it and it may be un ethical but if you can change the thremostat for warenty. its not like if your tranny rips out a clutch pack will even look for the tstat. and if they do find they have to prove that it was the cause of the problem.

regruarding the tune. its not a must have to change fan settings. it helps if you do alot of stop and go driving but at highway speeds your fans wil never turn on anyway and you will run the temp of the tstat you have.

also the hotter it is ouside will effect the engine temp reguardless of what tstat you have. i heard a good rule of thumb is that you will never run less than 100 degrees above ambiant temp. so say you have a 180 tstat it will run at 190 if its 90 outside. i never tested this but seems about right

as far as warrenty goes find a good dealer thats ok with mods. a cai will void warrenty if its the cause of the problem (something breaks off of it and get lodged in the manifold want be covered no matter what anyone says) they have to prove that something you added to the car was the direct cause of failure for it not to be covered. say you get a custom cmr tune and the your glove box falls off. its still covered . but as have as anything besides the body they can blame on the tune so take it how you want. they cant tell if you ever tuned a car and you should take it off anytime you go to the dealer because they will overwrite it not knowing if they give you an update or anything.

You can get a water/meth injection system. I think BMC had a writeup on it... I'll see if I can find it.

Re: Better Cooling Mod....

They have to prove the part caused the problem to get your warranty voided. The jet t-stat is my favorite because of the perfect fit and the fact that it is designed exactly like the stocker and comes with a gasket. It is super easy to swap and will really help you out in the cooling department. I could drive the car hard as I wanted to without it breaking 200. It was stuck at 215 or greater before. That was before I even changed fan settings. If you just went with the stat and it would help your cooling greatly and give you more consistant performance. If something were to go tits up you could swap the stock stat in no time and the dealer would be none the wiser. Unless you had a major failure or were going in for cooling system service then you should have zero worries.

I've got to agree. The Jet stat is great. Everything that justinSRT8 said is true too. If you don't have a T stat to control your coolant to the lower temp. it doesn't really matter what else you do, the car will warm up to whatever your T stat is rated for. Some additives , and additional use of the fans, and cooler outside temps. will help, because control of circulation can't always do it all if it's a hot day, and you're running it hard.
So far as warranty, a little common sense will make sure your warranty stays intact.
It didn't take long for me to notice the benefits of my Jet stat.
Thanks for the heads up on that one Brandon !!

Re: Better Cooling Mod....

Please explain why the dealer would consider a 180 degree theromstat voids your warranty.

From what I understand the stock thermostat is set for emissions improvement at the detriment to the motor. Isn't a cooler motor a happier motor, both for performance and longevity?

Pragmatically, it seems that the dealer would be more customer friendly than government friendly. Isn't the 180 tsat a governemnt concern?

The o/p didnt want to void his warrenty and that definitly will void it. unless you have a custom spacer made with holes in it for the nozzles you going to have to drill/tap into something for the nozzles.

Not knocking on water/meth injection as its one of my favorite mods and one of the firsts I would put on a car. helps lower iat's and egt's big time. not to mention the increase in octane from the meth.

The only reason I could see them arguing is if you had sludge buildup from colder temps and it gummed up the motor and caused a failure. With a 180 stat I don't see this ever being a problem if you drive it like it is meant to be driven.
