Performance ModificationsWant to talk about performance modifications for your Dodge Challenger? This is the forum for that. Anything from exhaust systems to power adders and everything in between. (Dodge Challenger Performance Modifications)
You've already got the headers don't you? Assuming SRT I would guess the biggest change for HP gain would be replacing the cats with high flow.
Both the other options will add a bit over that... LT's will provide some more low end Tq over stock.....
Same with RT, but more gains from the headers as factory equip is less well designed..
All just IMO, I"d love to hear the answers from some venders who have worked with the combinations....
You nailed it... the stock SRT manifolds are actaully very good, so you will see good gains replacing the cat back and adding high flow cats. Long tubes will pick up some power in the top end but for a bolt on car the cost outweighs the gains IMO. Longtubes are a better addition once you do a stroker or Forced Induction.

I tend to be Opinionated when it comes to exhaust with 30 years experience building custom exhaust systems for anything with wheels I developed an ear for great exhaust systems.
Ted,
I posted these questions the other day, but have had no response. If you could respond, I'd be most appreciative.
On an SRT8 Challenger (6 speed). Which of these scenarios would give the
greater HP/performance gain?
Aftermarket Headers hooked up to the factory cat-back system.
Factory exhaust manifolds hooked up to high performance cat-back system.
I don't plan on taking it to the dragstrip. Just looking for some extra power and a nice muscular sound.
Thanks much!
John
Back When the SRT8 Came out in the Magnum Wagon I tested a bunch of combinations with the manifolds and with different diameter Headers.
Both on the dyno and on the track.
The winning combination was Dynatech Headers x pipe and high flow cats combined with Corsa cat back exhaust.
This netted 403 RWHP and 11.90 ET with the only other mods being 3.73s a K&N cold air kit, NO TUNING.

Ted.
I did not realize Dnatech had headers for the Challenger... on there site I see 124-733300A but can not find info (yet) Pipe size, length of tube, collector info? Do you still have that data? I'll keep looking..
Thanks for the post..

No matter what cat-back system you ultimately decide on, getting used to it is an important part. The stock exhaust does an excellent job and the cabin noise is virtually nil. Adding any cat-back system is going to shock your senses, which is why you see people saying the sold their new cat-back system after only a day or two after installing them. It's a trade off. Quiet cruising or muscle car sound. The longer you run the stock exhaust the greater the shock is going to be to you. Just give the new system a few weeks and you'll find it's not really as harsh as you first thought. I think it's more a psychological thing, i.e., your mind trying to compare the difference.
I went with Zoomers and highly recommend them. They produce a nice muscle car sound that you want and would expect to come from a hemi and has a nice growl while cruising.
