I know that Vortech didn't have the tune but neither did Kenny Bell. According to SP when they tried to order the the twin screw from Kenne Bell, they told them that there was still a fitment issue (that has been worked out since) with the RT that it didn't have with the SRT8. And they wouldn't guarantee it to work without some modifications. Strictly Performance told me that the Vortech was a fine system and said the kit would not only get there faster but it was easier to install and could be done in 3 days including the tune.
And yes, they were thinking it would tune just like the SRT8. Would they of gotten the tune right if they started tuning on day 3 or 4? Perhaps they would have but starting the tune at noon on day 7 was their fault not mine. I called almost daily and everytime I talked to them, I was told everything was set for a Friday pickup. So when I called Thursday and they said everything would be ready for me to pick it up the next day. I was really surprised when I walked in at noon Friday and the car hadn't run good enough to drive yet. They didn't seem to have much urgency in getting my car finished until I showed up. So I really didn't have that feeling any there would be a lot of urgency if I let them have the car back.
When all this was going down I was given a lot of advice. I asked what the difference between an installer and a top tier installer. I made the suggestion that the only difference was that top tier installer perhaps paid some type of royalties which gave them that status. I was then told by several dealers that top tier status was earned by the quantity installed and experience of the shop.
Johan on the other hand, said I should go to see Brian at Hennessey. While I wanted to follow his advice, I had heard many horror stories about Hennessey. While I'm not going into what I have heard, I wasn't comfortable with going there.
I decided to go with the top tier shop to fix the tune. Of course josh said it would be a piece of cake. after a week with no luck he asked for another week. Since he told me he wouldn't charge me anything if he couldn't fix it and that the most he would charge me is $300 no matter what he had to do with it, I let it sit at Lonestar perhaps a week too long.
Yes I was seriously considering taking the Vortech off and selling it here on the forum and I might have. But Strictly Performance never acknowledge me when I asked if they still had my stock parts so I could go back.
By this time, I had heard from a forum member that Brian had left Hennessey and he was at ART. I called ART and they told me that they were confident that they could get it done and if not, I wouldn't owe them anything. What choice did I have since I still haven't heard from SP about my parts?
I took my car to ART on Thursday and Friday night I was called by David saying that Brian was having the same issues as everyone else but that he had called Johan and said not to give up. He told me told me he was going to hit it hard on Monday as they were going to the Texas mile Saturday and Sunday. I was called Monday night saying it was ready.
When I took the car back last night for some final tuning. I had some time to actually talk a bit with Brian as I was just dropping off the car. He was pretty candid about some things. I was told that there are a lot of tuners out there that were taught tuning the wrong way. They are often taught what values needed to placed in what table to get an acceptable result. Many tuners don't really understand the software and the electronics enough. So when problems come up like with the RT, they can't deal with them. Brian did not bad mouth anyone and was not saying that all tuners are like this, only that many are.
I would like to say that I don't feel Vortech owes me anything. I knew from the start that there was not a tune. I was just unlucky enough to choose the wrong places to take my car. The only things I felt I was owed are my stock parts. But now that I'm boosted, I don't even care because I'm not going back to NA.
I kind of expected this thread to die away now that I have a satisfactory outcome. Perhaps now that everything has been said, it can start it's move to page 2 or 3 and be forgotten.
