One of the things I love bout this site, I'm sure confuses the newbees, and is good for a chuckle, is the "rolling" signatures here! It's funny to see someone posting a question like Speedy did here, and in their sig., on the first post is the "answer"! I used to run a homemade Cherrybomb set-up as Magnaflow didn't have a system yet, then too expensive, but for last three weeks....... well read my sig! LOL

As for sound, I don't mind a nice throaty type loud...what I don't want is that crackling popping loud when you get on the gas.

I did have one other thought which was to buy the non Magnapack system that has the resonators AND mufflers. Then if it's not loud enough I can have a local shop just remove the rear mufflers and replace them with pipe. This system is only $50 more than the Magnapack system from the retailer I've found.

This is Magnapack System:

This is the standard system:

I've only seen one other Challenger in my area and it still had stock exhaust so there's really none I can listen to in person.

Hey Speedy

I have been bouncing back and forth between the 16515 (without resonators)and the 16514 (with resonators) undecided if I want to delete the resonators but I do want it to sound noticeably better than stock. I had the same thought as you in that if I order the kit with the resonators, I could always take them out if it is not loud enough. Do you know if the mufflers are the same on both kits? (so that is the only difference between the two)If so, then there would be no disadvantage to ordering the one with resonators. Is there a reason you decided not to go with it as you stated here it was only $50 more?

I went with the maganaflow standard system ( with the rear resonators) with the same idea in mind; that I could always replace the resonators with straight pipe if it didn't produce the sound I was looking for. Quite frankly, I really like the sound of the standard system, as is. It has gotten a little louder after putting a little over 500 miles on it, but it is not too loud ( I know sound is very subjective; my loud may be too quiet for others). It has a great rumble sound also. As for drone, there is a tiny bit (I have to listen for it to really hear it) compared to the aftermarket exhaust I had previously. I almost hate to categorize it as drone. My wife, who apparently has much more sensitive ears than me, hated the previous exhaust because of the drone, but really likes this one, so I suppose that says something. The only drawback with a lot of these aftermarket systems when you have the 5 speed auto is that when MDS kicks in when cruising you'll get that weird buzzing sound. I guess its because your 8 cylinder car is now operating in 4, so it sorta acts like a "fart can" on a sporty import. My solution: put in autostick mode

FOR THE SRT8......magnaflow 16885 quad tip, impress your neighbors. It is louder than the zoomers I ran before, the quad tips are huge, and bad ass looking, there is no flutter bs, or any goofy coffee can sound and zero loss of low end torque. AND IT DOES HAPPEN, my zoomers did it to me . This system with the tru x has none of that. I am extremely impressed by this...Is it loud..? hell yes..does it drone...When she is cold yes....? does the srt act like a 5.7 with mds..no...It is simple straight forward, performance based, and loud, If you can't deal with it have your wives pick one out for ya. ps my wife loves it reminds her of her fathers charger back in the day.....and I'm now not allowed to pick up the kids form school unless I bring the challenger . according to them

Bigsteam1,

I also have an SRT8, and I'm thinking about the Magnaflow 16885. I personally think that the stock system is great, but I don't want to upgrade for marginal sound differences. Any new exhaust will need to sound noticeably 'better' than stock, but without losing torque. If not, why bother.

After your car warms up, how bad is the drone? I do a fair amount of highway miles...

thanks for any feedback,

CG

MAKE NO MISTAKE THE DIFFERECE IS DRAMATIC, FROM THE PRESS OF THE BUTTON....TRUST ME YOU WILL SMILE....GIVE IT A MONTH TO SETTLE IN TOO..WAS ON THE FENCE UNTIL I TALKED TO SPEEDY.. HIS IS SIMILAR BUT NOT QUITE THE SAME...(THIS IS AN SRT8 PROSPECTIVE) THERE IS A SWEET SPOT IN RPM RANGE (60MPH-65MPH) ON THE HIGHWAY FOR THE AUTO'S, WHERE IT IS VERY CIVILIZED TO DRIVE..DON'T BE AFRAID...ITS OK TO COME OUT AND PLAY. ONE MORE THING NOT TALKED ABOUT MUCH...AN INCERDIBLELY NICE DOWN SHIFT NOTE. NONE OF THAT SNAP CRACKLE CRAP....THE X PIPE WORKS GREAT....

I just decided I wanted the car to sound like a muscle car. Based on the videos I found, the Magnapack system was the one for me.

I didn't wanna end up with a hacked up system when the one with mufflers wasn't rumbly enough for me.

I made the right choice for ME. It sounds awesome, but doesn't seem too loud. People stop me all the time and tell me how good it sounds when they're behind the car, even Mustang guys.

I am a bit older than most of you and in my case I should've went with the Corsa but I chose the 16514. It sounds great at idle and when you are accelerating, but at cruising speed there is a drone between 1800-2200 rpm. You just have to listen to it turn up the stereo. I have an auto and in 6 speed cars it would be ok because they cruise at a much lower rpm than the autos do. Just my 2 cents...

I just installed the magnaflow without resonators (dont know the part number)...its not too loud..although it is night and day louder than stock. when i started it up..blood rushed to my groin area. Sounds killer. I almost wish it was a little louder. Havent cruised hwy yet or really romped much because someone felt the need to make it rain 15 days now and counting...i did notice some drone in the 1800-2200 range...but i like it..haha. I purposely drive it there now just so its louder.
For what its worth

Heheheh, I told you you'd love it.

What's up with all this rain!!! I'm having serious withdrawal since mine's a fair weather car.
