I'm strongly considering getting a pair of Magnaflow glass packs in place of the resonators on my SRT 6 speed but leaving the rest stock. Considering the first set of mufflers on the 6 speeds are basically straight though exhaust anyway, will I have massive drone problems if I just replace the resonators? Would I be better off by getting a set of mufflers instead of glass packs?
My Challenger's a daily driver but it's just too damn quiet for me. I need maybe 10-15% more volume and I'd be happy but I use sixth gear quite a bit. So drone is definitely a concern. I've already decided on Magnaflow, but I'm debating getting simple glass packs or going with a set of mufflers. Thanks!

I deleted the resnos and I have NO DRONE at any speed..but loud as hell at WOT and sounds 15-20 % louder when street crusing...and quiet as stock crusing at 65-70 mph..with ZERO Drone. I bought the Cherry Bomb 8" glass packs to put in place of the resnos in case I needed them to stop any drone..turns out I dont need them..so I got 2 new Cherry Bombs in trunk..might put them on my Pickup..LOL
But I dont have any Drone Issues!! Hope this helps..
The 6.1 SRT-8's do not really suffer from drone as much as the 5.7s because they do not engage MDS. With straight exhaust and MDS on the drone is mind numbing loud. I had a free flow (Cherry Bomb) exhaust on a 5.7 for about 3 months before I finally put Corsa on. Anything longer than a short drive would induce headaches and I always cruised in 4th to minimize the drone.
Is anyone familiar with Magnaflow glass packs though? I love the sound of their catbacks, but glass packs are what I want to go with because of the money savings and I also prefer the look of the stock tips over anything I've seen on the market. BTW, I guess I must have pissed off the higher ups at the "Z" with this exact same thread! LONG LIVE CHALLENGERTALK!!!!
Well guys, I DID IT! Glasspacks / resonator delete and it sounds WICKED! But it seems my fears were completely unfounded. It's just a bit louder than stock at idle, but really gives me that baritone growl I wanted. There is a small band of drone from 2000-2100 RPM in FIFTH GEAR but that's it! No sixth gear drone whatsoever. I absolutely love it. I will post a video later today.

FYI - 6 speeds do not have MDS. The original poster is talking about adding Magnaflow glasspacks to his 6 speed manual challenger.

Looking forward to that video... appreciate details, part#, etc? Thanks.
It is dual Magnaflow Glasspacks PN: 14416, I have a 2009 6-speed Dodge Challenger SRT8. It was always louder than the autos because it never had a suitcase, but was always a bit too quiet for me. The glasspacks went where the first set of mufflers went. Per many people's advice on this forum, rather than putting another set of mufflers for the rear exhaust, I had good 'ol straightpipes put out the back.
Again, great sound, very little drone. It's got a deeper growl, but is very quiet when I lay off.
Here is a stock video I made: (Sorry for the crappy vid, but I only have a digital camera)
I have an RT that I put glass packs on. the car ran great and sounded great. but not with MDS. so i just ran the car in manual shift. but one morning I ran it in drive with MDS activated the car flooded out and died. come to find out the timing chain broke. now i have also had a problem with the MDS before. It would sound like a belt squalling when it would engage.I could switch to manual and noise would go away. and now that the car is back together. the dealer is having trouble with the air/fuel ratio. while in MDS. the car keeps flooding out. he says it is because of my glass packs not having enough back pressure, he also says that the front O2 sensor is running rich and the rear is running lean. what are your guys opinion.
