Man, the Charger and Magnum 5.7s spanked the whole field in 0 to 60 MPH by about 2 seconds! The Dodge 3.5 liter Charger and Magnum are nearly as fast as Ford and Chevy's best powerplants. If I were in law enforcement, I'd take a Charger, thank you.

These days they just choose the one they can save a nickel on...

The Dodge put the hurtin' on the other cars though, that's pretty impressive.

... and now I know that the Alameda Co. Sheriff will start to drop back even faster once we pass 150 mph...

I had several nice chats with LE back when my Charger SRT8 was a new kid on the block; they knew that Chargers would be configured for squad cars and were all hoping that their dept. would have them. I once talked with an officer in his Hayward PD cruiser while he was pulling over the guy in front of him in slow city traffic. Very funny.

Our Challenger R/Ts and SRTs can smoke all of these police interceptors, but not their radios.

Not only will the SRT's smoke the units...but it smoked a Euro Copter Helicopter here in Nor Cal a few months ago. a stolen 300 SRT out ran the helicopter in a chase traveling more then 60 miles....the bad guy eventually crashed and wrecked a good car, but went to jail.

I was stopped by a county Sheriff in West Texas in my '09 Challenger R/T, No ticket- I'm a State employee.
He claimed top speed on his '09 Charger 6.1 was 156 mph. Don't know if true, but surely a cop wouldn't lie

120-130 top speeds? DANG, the police have really let go of pursuit! They need to get a few SRTs out there for pursuit vehicles like the mustangs and camaros used to be used for...

Impressive for the Charger 3.5L. It's hanging right with the Crown Vic with a V8.

A lot of departments in my area use the Charger 3.5L. The back seats are replaced with a single molded plastic unit so arrestees can't slip stuff from their pockets in the seat cracks.

In a large metropolitan area, speed is no longer an issue because of the air support and the number of units they can put to the chase. Never stops the bad guy from trying though and it makes for good TV.

OT: Jesse James of West Coast Choppers grew up in So. Cal. and has a new show. So he decided he would challenge the cops to a battle of "catch me if you can." They went out to an abandoned Air Force base outside of Victorville and the chase was on. The cops got their usual tools: cars, helicopter, spike strips, etc. Fun episode to watch.

Jesse James is a Dead Man
