Shift light with a 6-speed

Safety s always a primary concern when racing any vehicle. With the 6-speed, you need to monitor your RPMs to make sure one shifts at the appropriate shift point when "getting it on". I don't like to take my eyes off the road when doing so and wonder if anyone is using a shift light to help determine when to shift. I would like to hear from anyone that uses a shift light, does it help, what system you use and whether it is easy to install.

Thanks in advance.

It definately helps. I've used the MSD light with the rpm pill before. Installed it in the ac vent so it was out of sight. Not sure where you would wire it in on our cars.

My GT500 came with a shift light built into tach. You can set it to the RPM setting of your choice. Comes in handy.

@Abnmarine:
Do you have a link to that part?

Generally I would love to have a shift light which is connected to the oil temperature of the engine and comes on very early as long as the engine is cold.
I really take care to drive it warm - but it would help even more. Especially early in the morning when I'm driving but aren't really awake.

Here's a link to my shift light. Fully programable for launch and each gear. I installed mine on the roll cage bar.

Thanks for the information and useful part numbers as this is a good start for me to look into obtaining additional information. I think it is a nice idea to place the shift light in the aircondition tunnel.

These work really good as a stand alone shift light. I have one installed on my 07 VMax. The light is self contained and you can select the RPM level to have it light up. The one on my bike isn't much bigger in diameter than a pencil and half as long. It would hide in an air vent really well and could be seen good because it is bright. It even has a colored plastic cover to shield the light.

Figureing out where to wire it into the ignition system would be the trick.
