Opinions on the 2 setups. Power, reliability, reputation...

I haven't really done any research on either set up other than see them advertised various places. The one thing that scares me right off the bat about the STS set up is turbo lag. With the turbos at the back of the car, it seems that there would be no way to avoid noticable lag due to all the tubing involved. Granted that would not really effect overall peak HP numbers, but the slow spool up would really kill the fun factor.

Turbos are pretty much a science all to themselves, and there are many things to consider when sizing properly. Looking at the compressor maps, the AR ratio of the housing, etc.. can help in faster spool up, but can also limit the power capability of the turbo. So while the STS sytems might make similar power, my gut tells me the Hellion set up will be more effective with the turbos mounted in a more traditional location (under the hood).

Considering we deal with both, they are both good systems. STS was really the only Turbo option for a long time. Tuning was an issue though especially on stock bottom end cars. I would vote for the Hellion now that it is available. More traditional design, and strong backround in turbo's. Maybe you would like to be one of the first in Fla witha Hellion...hint hint!

Jeff 70 TA can help out on this subject he has a TT setup running at 5.5 psi on his 2009 RT 6 speed. I am sure he has all the information needed to guide you.

Thanks BW Yes I have the first STS set-up on the 5.7VCT I posted a thread with the whole process and whatever you do make sure that you get a great tuner as he will have to write his own program for this engine set-up, to date the only turbo set-ups running are on the 6.1 as far as turbo lag don't have it we broke the car in and I started tearing up half shafts before we even dyno tuned after which I changed out with 1000hp half shafts and we tuned it I got in 4 passes and destroyed the stock clutch and the new half shafts (heat treatment problem) Now for the stock bottom on a 5.7 we currently are running 5.5 pounds of boost and making 481.2 rwhp the dyno-dynamic is know by many as being ultra conservative also getting the right tuner he can and will get your torque right. The STS kits are reasonable but the install is going to smack you and you have a lot of additional items your going to want to keep it reliable. The Hellion kit is sweet as they have done this for many years so they build a good looking kit but it's just not ready for the 5.7 yet. You could also talk with my shop of choice as they are offering turbo kits his own. Good luck and hopefully this will help.

I would stay away from STS based on some of the tuning issues (rumors) floating around here in Utah. I'm not sold on the idea of having the turbo's located next to the rear wheels especially with the salted roads here in Utah.

I think 70 TA has his squared away as far as major issues to speak of. If broken half shafts are issues then stay stock.

I heard the same thing but dynosteve knows his stuff and I have had NO ISSUES with the turbo set-up and the reliability. It all comes down to your tuner on the 5.7VCT. Yes you will need to get the units coated that was some of the additional stuff I was mentioning, but just getting the units wet with road spray will cause them to build a coating of rust, but what about your aluminum under the challenger it's going to pit in a salted conditions...

Thanks for the replies...I have a 09 6-speed 6.1 and live in Florida. I have been thinking Kenne Bell for the past several months, until I spoke with a local shop who seems against Bell and is hyped up to do a Hellion kit. Now I'm just purplexed. I'm not interesrted in the turbo if there isn't at least a safe "included tune". From what I've read the Bell tune is pretty good/safe just leaves room for improvement if desired rather than needing a complete from scratch tuning.

Dude go for the Hellion kit you'll be 500+ rwhp and they have the 6.1 kits running just fine I didn't know you had a 6.1 thought it was a 5.7 you won't regret the turbos very dependable and you can keep the care with good manners until it's time to let her rip.
