Re: Which supercharger?

Sms is the same charger as the techo. But yeah ive heard good things about all of them, you just have to read up onto when you want the power and which type of charger you want to go with.

My experience with Vortech and Procharger has been rewarding on many projects from drag racing to normal street usage. I can only assume that both vendors have really thought out the Challenger program with minimal sacrifice to quality. In my experience the ATI/Procharger guys have built some serious power with their higher end compressors F1, F2, F3 etc...Vortech just the same, but most guys/gals favor the Prochargers.

With the Challenger and its weak spots (pistons), the P1SC would be my limit.

Screw-style superchargers? Just not a fan of them, but if Techno puts down a clean package I might consider one for my 2010 SRT come late next year. The R&D concerns me a bit, but that's expected with any good package.

Does Techno have a website we can take a gander at?

Re: Which supercharger?

Vortech has a great reputation and I have used their products in the past with great success. I have choosen them again for the blower on my chally.Procharger is nice as well but in my experience they tend to be a bit more aggressive on their tuning than Vortech stuff, but that may have changed recently. Techco seems to be new to the game and although they have a very nice looking kit, I would be a little concerned with their R&D and how the "constant" boost pressures of their kit will affect the Chally and its weak points. The 3 year 36K warranty on the Vortech is a nice selling point as well for the powertrain. I'm sure this was something Hurst took into account when they choose them for their blown cars.

Re: Which supercharger?

The supercharger you should get depends on what your use the car for, and what type of power you are seeking. The Vortech/Procharger build power as the rpm of the engine increases, so in general, the more rpms you are running the more power. The Techco builds boost more instantly for higher torque right off the bat, but lower high-end power.

Vortech and Procharger kits are available, Techco is currently finalizing their systems. Techco produces the kits for SMS as a private label, so going with Techco instead of SMS saves you some money as you aren't paying for the SMS name. Just an FYI on that.

The Vortech and Procharger are around the same price, with the Techco being a bit more expensive. All of them are cooled, and advertise 120-140 hp gains. We run the Vortech on our Charger SRT8 and I am planning a custom Vortech set-up on my Challenger R/T. I've considered the Techco set-up but they don't have a complete unit on a car to show yet, so there is a lot more information yet to come about the Techco system. We do have a lot of inside information on Techco so check out our forum on this site for more information also.

Having the most experience with Vortech (you can find my 690+ rwhp Mustang on Vortech's main web page) we recommend their systems for most customers. The horsepower building through boost along the natural rpm curve of the engine is a great way to make safe, fun power. Their tuning is spot on, right out of the box, as we've been running the "canned" tune for over 4,000 miles on our SRT8 Charger. We have a number of customers running Vortech systems, and another SRT8 in the shop right now getting a Vortech. We also have several pre-orders in for customers wanting the Techco system, so both are fine choices based on your preference.

We are a Top Tier Installer for Vortech, the 1st Distributor for Techco, as well as a distributor for Procharger. Let me know if you have any other questions or if we can help you sort through which system is right for you. When you're ready to get a supercharger ordered we can give you a great price!

Re: Which supercharger?

Staying on topic here...

BMC...What's your take on the quality of each kit you've experienced? Trying not to be bias please, hahaa...but what's your no BS comments for the hardware side of the house, mounts, hoses, etc? Doesn't the Vortech kit require a oil supply/return line over the ATI/Procharger? Just curious as I am in the market for next Summer.

Very good questions! The Vortech kit comes with an internally oiled supercharger, so no return oil line is required. (They do have units that do require the oil line, but not in the kits for our Hemi applications.) Procharger is internally oiled also. Here are my overall thoughts on each kit ...

Vortech
- Best overall in my opinion for fit, finish, appearance and sound
- Runs great on 'canned' tune supplied with kit
- 3year/36k warranty available if installed by a Top Tier Installer

Procharger
- Lower price on the surface but requires the purchase and installation of a new balancer, so total cost rises
- Required to relocated coolant overflow tank and power steering tank
- Has blown up 1 Challenger SRT8 due to poor tuning (California car where gas is 91 octane at best). I just got the call Friday from a non-customer looking for help rebuilding his car

Techco
- Not yet released (still taking pre-orders) so no actual information on installation process, sound, power yet
- Replaces your intake, so you can sell yours and recoup some funds (especially for SRT8 owners)
- Highest price

Hope that helps. Let me know what other questions you guys have!
