What is a catch can?

Hi all

I see from time to time people are putting catch cans on their cars? What the heck does that do for performance?

The Hemis have a lot of oil blow back that gets into the intake manifold which causes, among other things, timing to get retarded not to mention making a mess and helping to build up sludge. The catch can does just what its name implies, it catches that wayward oil. It's a good investment and looks sharp too. Easy to install. Check out Billet Technology. The first true catch can for the LX based Hemi rides both 5.7 and 6.1's.

The purpose of a catch can is to minimize the amount of oil vapor that is fed into the cars air intake tract.

Are there catch cans for the SE? And is it necissary for the 3.5L?
