Talking Width of new Challenger Engine Bay ?

Looking for the Width of new Challenger Engine Bay ?

Mainly the narrow point between the strut towers?

Just thinking way ahead to when these cars are older and need an engine transplant, Like a 'real' old school 426 hemi.

Just wondering if it is possible

Re: Width of new Challenger Engine Bay ?

the old school 426 should fit. I assume its the same width as my charger though, I will measure it for you tomorrow if I get the chance.

Re: Width of new Challenger Engine Bay ?

lol, i highly doubt we run out of OIL. However the way the oil companies make it sound, tomorrow could be the last time we see oil.

Re: Width of new Challenger Engine Bay ?

Why would you want to.....newer motors have much more HP per Cubic inch.....for what that would cost you could build a 6.1 into a 426 CI Stroker at about 550 HP and have driveability and change in your pocket

Re: Width of new Challenger Engine Bay ?

The Challenger is nearly identical to the Charger.

Although I love the look of the old' HEMI, the New' HEMI actually is a better design. Our 426s make approx. 500whp and there is about a 20% drivetrain loss. So 600 BHP on pump gas, daily driver, doesnt overheat & idles like "nearly stock". Did I mention that they get 21+ mpg on the highway? It would hard to get the original 426's to come anywhere close.

Dont get me wrong, I love the old HEMI. I just wouldnt swap it in a New Challenger body.

The new Challengers deserve a real motor stroke a 6.1 to 426ci and it is still a truck motor. There is nothing undriveable about a real Hemi. And real Hemi's can be bored past .030 over.

Not to mention the weight. As sweet as the old 426 Hemi was it has the proper nickname "elephant". It would make a new Challenger a poor handling tank with weight balance approaching that of a FWD car. No thanks.
